When we drill using fresh water mud and we can not get mud filtrate and mud cake
to take the measurement of Rmc and Rmf, do we measure only Rm and consider
Rm=Rmf=Rmc?? or there is something else we should do??

Getting Started
RMF & RMC can be calculated if only RM and mud weight is known:
Parmanand
RMF= c X RM^1.07
RMC=0.69XRMFX(RM/RMF)^2.65
c is dependent on mud weight value.

Please refer to the Schlumberger Chart book Gen-7, the Mud density (lbm/gal) to C value is given
Parmanand below:
10 ppg - 0.847
11 ppg - 0.708
12 ppg - 0.584
13 ppg - 0.488
14 ppg - 0.412

I'm somewhat curious as to why the service company can't/didn't measure them for you. The
approximation formula Parmanand showed work but measured is generally better.

Along the lines of Dan's question, can you please explain what you mean when you say "we can
not get mud filtrate and mud cake to take the measurement of Rmc and Rmf"? Are you just
drilling with water with no additives (mud) so there is no mud cake? Or, do you just not have
samples of the mud cake and mud filtrate? If you mean the latter, either the logging engineer or
the mud engineer should be able to run the mud through a mud press to get the mud cake and
the mud filtrate. The same meter that the logging engineer uses to measure Rm can then be used
to measure Rmc and Rmf.
If you...
Thank you Dan and Eric for your comments, we are drilling in the basement using fresh water.
So, only Rm can be measured as there is no mud cake will be build, the filtrate will be almost the
mud it self.
