INTRODUCTION
CIRCUIT TOPOLOGY
Despite the fact that voltage source inverter VSI fed drive is
widely used in industry, current source inverter CSI fed drive
finds its application particularly when fast dynamic
performance is not needed such as fans, pumps and etc. [1].
In comparison to VSI drives, CSI drives have simpler
topology with lower switch count, more friendly waveforms
and reliable overcurrent and short-circuit protection [2].

Different

make
distinctive
performances in which they may be applied in industry. It is of
a great significance to analyze each of these features in order to
use them where matched by the industry demand. Generally
speaking, SHE switching strategy provides higher harmonics
performance whereas SVM switching pattern brings higher
dynamic performance to converter. [3]

As shown above, the Medium vector I 7 has no effect on id1
and id3. Generally, id1 and id3 are controlled in odd sectors while
the Medium vectors in even sectors are effective on id2 and id4.
At each state of choosing Medium switching states, phase
voltages and DC currents are measured. Afterward, the proper
switching state is chosen according to the measured parameters
and the designed switching sequence.
B. When ma<0.5
The method is little bit different when modulation index ma
becomes lower than 0.5. When the reference current is located
in either inner triangles three closest vectors are two Small
vectors and one Zero vector. Since, Medium vectors are needed
to be employed to eliminate unbalanced dc current, it is
impossible to synthesize the reference current with the three
closest vectors. So, it is necessary to modify the method as it is
described in below.

SIMULATION
A. Waveforms
The simulation results for the output current iw is shown in
Fig. 6 for single-level and multi-level inverters working at f=
60 Hz, Ts= 1/1080 s and ma= 1.

B. THD Comparison
Table 3 provides the THD content of the switching current
iw comparison between single-level and multi-level inverters at
different ma values. Fig. 8 illustrates the same comparison.
