Title: Global Poverty

General Purpose: To persuade

Specific Purpose Statement: To persuade my audience to take a stand against poverty.
Central Idea: Poverty can be terminated by knowing it and by taking some necessary steps
against it.

Introduction:
i) There are many people living in earth. Who dont have sufficient
food for themselves, who do not have a good shelter, who is
uneducated, is in a bad health condition and their cloths are torn
and dirty. ii) They are those people who are living under the line
of poverty. iii) First let us know what poverty is. Poverty is that
thing or that circumstance when people cannot buy food, Cloths,
shelter, health and education. IV) Poverty is one of the serious
global problem we are facing and it can be terminated by taking some

necessary steps.

Body:
I. Poverty is one of the major problems for todays world. The
consequence of poverty in current world is serious.
A. Hunger is one of the biggest challenges of poverty.
1.
According to World Hunger Poverty Facts and
Statistics approximately 870 million people were living
in hunger under poverty during 2010-2012.
2.
According to the report of globalissue.org 21000
children die each day due to poverty where most of them
die for lack of food.
B. Malnutrition and health related issues also considered as a
consequence caused by poverty.
1.
According to report of globalissues.org, there are
more than 400 million people around the world who have
access to safe water.
2.
Approximately 1.5million of people are dying
throughout the world due to shortage of safe drinking
water.

3.
More than 2million of people are dying around the
world due to shortage of immunization throughout the
world.
4.
More than 15 million people are orphan because of
HIV of their parents and they are also carrying the virus
with them.
C. There still is a big number of population living with no
adequate shelter or without shelter where the US number is
also huge.
1.
640 million people without adequate shelter.
2.
According to the report of thinkprogress.org it is
said that there are more than 600,000 of Americans who
are homeless.
3.
An article called Invisible Child published in NY
times on December 9 2013 it says that there are more
than 22000 homeless children in NY.

You have seen the consequences of poverty. Now most of you must have
an eagerness to know what the reasons behind poverty are. So now I am
going shortly tell about the reasons of poverty.
II. There are different reasons that cause the poverty to intense it
more.
A. Lack of food contribution is one of the reasons.
1.
A report of thegurdian.com says about 50 percent
of foods produce in the world are never eaten.
2.
Beside this in 2010, American spent 29 billion on
candy and 76 billion on soda a part of which could have
been donated to the hungry people for their main food.
3.

American waste 165 billion on food in 2010.

B. The rich people dont contribute their money while most of the
money they waste on luxury.
American waste nearly 60 billion on lottery tickets in 2010
on the other side of the world people have no money to
buy food, or effort shelter.

III. I personally think poverty can be removed from the world if we take
some steps. These steps are:
A. There is no alternative of contributing.
1.
People can avoid unnecessary buying and save
those dollars for charity which would help in fight
poverty.
2.
This is possible by cutting down our luxury life in
half or by reducing unnecessary expenses.
3.
Donating our excessive growing food to the poorer
countries would be really useful way of fighting poverty.
B. Microcredit is another way of fighting poverty.
1.
It gives people loan on their private investing.
2.
It also gives people training on investing and
regulates them proper period of time.
3.
According to World Bank report A third world
country Bangladesh, is a great examples where poverty
dropped down 40% to 31.5% from 2005 to 2010 by the
help of microcredit.
C. Another important way of fighting poverty is by increasing
literacy rate. If more money can be donated in creating schools
or other educational institution around the world it would be
really useful way for solving poverty issue in future.

Conclusion:
I have reached the end of my speech. In my speech I have mentioned
about Poverty and it can be terminated by taking some necessary steps
against it. I wish everyone can work together and put an end to the curse
of poverty and make the world more beautiful place for living by making
everyone free from the curse of poverty.
