Objective(s):
Students will be able to recognize and understand 8th notes, and will be able to play simple
melodies that include 8th note rhythms
Assessment:
Students will accurately sing 8th note rhythms by rote, air bow and play 8th note rhythms on
their instruments in For Petes Sake.
Personal objective:
To present new material in small, easy-to-manage sections in order to ensure student
success

Introduction: Good morning students! Turn to page 21 in your books and look at number 76
For Petes Sake
Procedure:
Teacher will give students 2 minutes to look over the song and figure out the note
names.
o For students that finish early, the teacher will instruct them to begin practicing
the song pizzicato
o During this time, the teacher will walk around the room making sure that
students are engaged and helping students that are struggling.
Teacher will lead students in saying the note names of song in rhythm/tempo.
o If students struggle with this task, the teacher will isolate the rhythm and lead
students in saying the rhythms out loud using tas and ti-tis.
Teacher will give students 2 minutes to practice the song pizzicato.
o For students who have already played it pizzicato or finish early, the teacher
will instruct them to play it with a faster tempo, or practice with an air bow.
Teacher will lead students in playing the song pizzicato
o If needed the teacher will play the melody on the piano while students play
pizzicato.
Teacher will give students 2 minutes to practice the song arco.
o For students that finish early the teacher will ask them to play the song for
them and address any issues with their playing.
o For students that are struggling, the teacher will help the student break down
the song into smaller sections and address any issues that need work.
The teacher will lead the students in playing the song arco.

Find a format that works best for you. You may also use the district or site approved
template as appropriate for your placement. You will need to have a discussion with your
Mentor teacher about this.

In order to identify areas of the song that need more work and students that
need help, the teacher will ask smaller sections of the class to play the song.
If needed the teacher will give students extra time to work on the song
individually. During this time the teacher will help those who are struggling
with material.
If students learn the song quickly, the teacher will lead the class in playing
song at a faster tempo.

Closure: Good job today! Make sure to practice the areas where it changes form 8th notes to
quarter notes as well as measures 12-14
