Exercise: (Using SPSS)

Problem:
Is there a significant difference in Entrance Examination of student when they
are classified according to their Fathers Education Qualification.
STEP:
1. Ho: There is no significant difference in Entrance Examination of student when
they are classified according to their Fathers Education Qualification.
HA: There is significant difference in Entrance Examination of student when they
are classified according to their Fathers Education Qualification.
2. Level of significant ( = 0.05)
3. Statistical Test: ANOVA
4. Compute: Use the data
The command using ANOVA is found at Analyze -- Compare Means -- One way
ANOVA

One Way ANOVA dialog box will appear.

Select:

Statistical Decision:
Reject Ho since the significant value is .003 and accept the H A.

6. Conclusion:
There is a significant difference in the students performance in Entrance
Examination when they are classified according to their Fathers Education
Qualification, F(2,32) = 6.897, p=0.003.
Since there is a significant difference in Entrance Examination of student
when they are classified according to their Fathers Education Qualification,
We will use Scheffe test to determine which will be the group having a
significant difference.

*. The mean difference is significant at the 0.05 level.

Pair wise comparison by Scheffe Test reveals that there is no significant difference
between the secondary and bachelors degree qualification of the father, p=0.41, however
there is a significant difference between secondary and masters degree qualification of the
Father, p=0.005. Likewise there is a significant difference between the bachelors and
master degree qualification of the father, p= 0.031.
