Job No:7237.500.163
The biggest challenge to used oil refining has been removing contaminants and additives from used
oil. There are existing processes to remove these materials, but these methods requiring high capital
and operating costs. Therefore, profitable used oil refining has not become widespread.
However, after years of research and development, Meglobloil ant its Licence Partner of the United
States has completed a used oil refinery technology that will revolutionize the oil recycling industry.
Meglobaloil's technology recycles used lubricating oil to its highest and best use--clean
lubricating oil. Meglobaloil's patented technology reduces the cost of building refineries to a
fraction of the cost of traditional used oil refineries. In addition, operating costs are lower, and
the end product, with a mild finishing step, has the same quality as virgin lube stock.
Revolutionary Technology-Compare
Meglobaloil's technology is distinct among the many technologies available in the world. Existing
technologies generally use a combination of heat and pressure to remove contaminants.
Meglobaloil's solvent extraction system operates without extensive heat or pressure. Existing
technologies require huge capital costs. Meglobaloil used oil refineries can be built for roughly 30 40 percent less than traditional technologies. Larger capital costs and higher collection volumes are
needed by other technologies just to break even. Meglobaloil's technology requires as few as 27,000
tonnes per year to operate. A smaller scale Meglobaloil facility is possible, depending on local
circumstances.
Because of its unique solvent extraction system, the Meglobaloil Process eliminates the need for
thin-film evaporators as well as the very expensive hydrotreating step.
In Meglobaloil's process, water, additives and contaminants are removed at ambient conditions,
which then allow the resulting oil to be handled with traditional distillation equipment.

VACUUM DISTILLATION
The flash adjusted oil is then sent to a traditional Vacuum Distillation Unit (9). This unit used
structured packing to provide the vapor liquid contact. The structured packing can be used ,
because the contaminated which cause coking and corrosion have been removed in the
extraction and separation stages. The vacuum is produced with a mechanical vacuum pump thus
keeping the waste generation at the lowest possible level.

Used Oil
First phase oil (after contaminants have been removed)
Residue
Light Neutral Base oil (directly from distillation column without a finishing step)
Light Neural Base Oil (following clay polishing)
Heavy Neutral Base Oil (Directly from the distillation column without a finishing step)
Asphalt Flux/Modifier (Residuum mixed with tower bottoms)
ASPHALT PRODUCTION
The process makes a superior asphalt modifier from the waste products which has a higher than
usual value in the US. This material enhances the temperature characteristics of the final asphalt
product. The product is made by combining the bottoms from the vacuum unit (9) with the solids
from the separator (4). The water vapor is condensed and then sent to the waste water treatment
area.
PRODUCT FINISHING
This process produces a single untreated base oil. An additional distillation column can be added
depending upon the purchase base oil product needs.
Following, a clay finishing step can be utilized to clarify and stabilize the base oil. Of Course, a
hydrotreaing finishing step is utilized if the purchase so desires.
Typical yield from our patented process is as follows:
Water
Fuel
Lube Base Oil
Asphalt Flux
Vol 5 %
Vol 3 %
Vol 74 %
Vol 18 %
Operating Costs
The table below shows operating costs based on a unit processing 27,000 tonnes per year of waste
oil. The labor cost is based on two operators working 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. The labor cost is
fixed and is therefore lower for units with greater capacity and higher for units with lower capacity.
The costs do not include a clay finishing step.
Product Quality
Meglobaloil's process effectively removes the contaminants from used oil and returns clean base oil
that can then be used in one of three applications: a base lube oil, a base industrial oil or a cleanburning industrial fuel. Tests on this base oil have shown that used oil processed with Meglobaloil's
technology meets industry standards and has the same quality as virgin lube oil.
The contaminants, such as dirt, lead, arsenic and other environmentally harmful metals and
chemicals, removed from the used oil are chemically bound in a residuum that can be safely used as
an asphalt modifier. Tests on this residuum show that when the residuum is used as an asphalt
modifier, the residuum improves the quality of the asphalt, especially in extremely hot and cold
temperatures.
