Our class went to a vegetable farm called Gourmet Farms, Inc.

There, we
saw many plants used for commercial propagation. One of these is coffee which is
also known as Coffea arabica. It is drank by many people as a morning ritual to
boost their enery for the rest of the day. Also lettuce is one of the common plants
propagated to be used as a salad or included in a dish. It is also known as Lactuca
sativa. We also saw many herbs being planted such as rose mary. Rose mary is also
known as Rosmarinus officinalis. It is a quite popular herb used to enhance the
flavors of some dishes and also it has a medicinal use because it is loaded with
antioxidants.
The guide during the Gourmet Farm trip discussed loads of amazing facts
about their establishment. The proprietors inspiration to get in a plant business was
he was into traveling and in his trip he saw two different shelf of vegetables. He
observed that there are only a few who buys the big vegetables and he wondered
why and so he asked the seller. The seller explained that the smaller vegetables are
the organic ones which is why more people buy them. The Gourmet Farm was
established in Silang, Cavite because it is where the perfect weather for planting is
found. The owner of this establishment wanted to help the other small
coffeeindustry which is why he entered into a coffee roasting business. Some of the
fresh and processed plant products are marketed into herbs for dishes and coffee
products.

2. Choose your favorite spot and evaluate the landscape design based on
the elements and principles of design discussed in class.
My favorite spot was the one with the bamboo with water flowing on it
because of its color and texture. For color, there is a variety of plants that
has different colors and it is pleasing for my eyes. For the texture, it has a
atmosphere of the outdoor area, which is relaxing.
