Table: 2 dimensions and static and dynamic load capacities of single row deep
groove ball bearings
Where, [1, 4]
D1=abutment diameter on shaft,
D2=abutment diameter on shaft and housing
Since, our principal dimension of internal diameter d is 12 mm we chose bearing
no.6202.

a= 15mm
B = 35 mm
C = 9mm
Advantages of bearing 6202:
Deep groove geometry for high speeds and supporting both radial and axial loads

Chrome steel for durability and resistance to deformity under heavy loads
Metal shields on both sides of the bearing to keep lubricant in and contaminants out
Lubricated at manufacturer for no additional lubrication required

4.5.7 Spring Design:

Stiffness=force/deflection [2]
=800/10
=80N/mm
Dimensions: Outer diameter D=8mm
Inner diameter d=1mm
No. of coils n= 100
4.5.8 Connecting Rod Design:

pc =A x pmax = (160 x 130) x 0.0385 =800.8N

pcr =

()

We know that, [3]

pcr = pc x fos
(

= 800.8 x 3

Hence, t=3.56 =4mm

CHAPTER 5

FABRICATION, WORKING AND DRAWING

5.1 PROCESS INVOLVED:
The fabrication process starts from dimensioning the raw material until finished
desired product is obtained. The processes that are involved are:
1) Design
Deciding which components to be used standard and which need to be designed.
Design of components like shaft, bearing selection etc.
2) Drawing
Drawing of all the components using CAD software Solid edge thus creating the
following drawings:
Part drawings
Assembly drawing

Layout of machine

3) Getting material
Getting suitable racks that have types of steel like L- shape sheet, rectangular
hollow steel, square steel, ram of mild steel, shafts of around 12 mm diameter (explained
in design), standard sprockets, chains and plates for crank and connecting rod, spring etc.
4) Cutting material
The process involves cutting the material using portable cutting machine and
cutting saw for making the frame of the machine.
5) Drilling
Drilling, tapping processes to accommodate bolts.(crank pin, connecting rod pin)
6) Bending process
The sheet metal used in hopper arrangement undergoes process bending using
bending machine to get true shape for the project.

7) Guideway:
This is a crushing channel shaped component which enables the
can to slide while
getting crushed. The component is selected from scrap.
8) Turning
Shaft is turned to the calculated dimensions using lathe machine.
9) Assembly
Assembly included assembly of shafts and bearings, assembly of
crank and
connecting rod using crank pin, assembly of connecting rod and ram using
trunion joint
which allows simultaneous swivelling motion and sliding motion and all
other assembly
was done using welding process.
