Policy for Research Intensive Faculty and Research Faculty
Introduction
To give major thrust to Research at LPU and to achieve focused innovative research through
research projects, it is important to identify faculty members having orientation towards research.
Scope
This policy is to facilitate faculty members to write grant proposals and to increase the number of
grant proposals sent from the University to funding agencies and also to increase the number of
papers published in journals indexed by Thomson Reuters/Scopus.
Definition
Research Intensive Faculty(RIF) - Faculty members who have got their project funded from external
agency come under this category.
Research intensive faculty members are considered as the Brand Ambassadors of the DRD at Lovely
Professional University. In order to facilitate the implementation of their project successfully, and to
encourage them to write more proposals, load relaxation is given.
Research Faculty (RF) Faculty members who aspire to become Research Intensive faculty. In order
to facilitate them to write Project proposals for external grants, load relaxation is given.
Eligibility
Educational qualification PhD
Publications at least two publications in Journals indexed in Thomson Reuters/Scopus.

Process of Identification of Research Faculty


Identification by HoS (Not more than 20% of total number of faculty in the school)*
Recommendation by HoF
Recommendation by Worthy Vice-Chancellor
Approval by Higher Authorities.
*If more than 20% faculty members are eligible for RF, then HOS should identify the faculty
members to be nominated on following parameters:
*H index
*Working on University thrust area
*Passion to setup labs in DRD
*Number of PhD students supervising
*Consolidated weightage of attitude, technical knowledge, soft skills
List to be provided by HoS through HOF to DRD.
For non-teaching period 1 month before the end of the semester.
For teaching period 2 weeks before load allocation.

Load relaxation and expected outcome


A. During non-teaching period
The identified research faculty will devote majority of their time on research during non-teaching
period May, June, July and December.

The identified research faculty would write two research proposals in collaboration with 3 to 4 other
faculty members. One research paper to be prepared and communicated (from their Masters/PhD
Student thesis with student as the co-author)

Expected outcome during December

The identified research faculty would write one research proposal in collaboration with 3 to 4 other faculty
members.

B. During teaching period

*If there are more than one Co-PI in a project, only one Co-PI will be given the load relaxation.
** Load relaxation is applicable for the duration of the project.
**If a faculty obtains grant after load allocation, load relaxation is not applicable in the current
term

***List of research faculty during teaching period should be provided by HoS through HOF to DRD
before load allocation. Format enclosed.
Expected outcome from Research Intensive faculty
Completion of project within the stipulated time and submission of reports to external funding
agency. Publishing of the results in journals indexed by Thomson Reuters/Scopus
Expected outcome from Research faculty
The identified research faculty would write research proposals as per the above mentioned budget.
They are also expected to publish one paper in a refereed journal indexed by Thomson
Reuter/Scopus. This is over and above the target given to all other faculty members possessing
PhD degree.
Progress evaluation
Periodic review meetings (weekly) would be conducted by DRD to monitor the performance of
research faculty. The review and proposal presentation will aid in the appraisal of research faculty.

In case of achieving below minimum satisfactory performance level, the faculty may be put on PIP
or annual increments are prone to be affected.
