1.2 Background
The current HP4R2 that was launched in 2006 gained increase in unit sales by 360 % in total from the predecessor. In
developing countries, it was practically positioned as high-end model and unfortunately it did not succeed in becoming a
predecessor of PG for the cost gap. On the other hand, in developed countries, it was broadly accepted thanks to its affordability,
reliable machine performance and high image quality. Demand for the optional network controller accelerated sales and
revealed necessity of enhanced networkability. In the 16th mid-term business plan, expanding sales portion in mid to high end
segment is one of the main strategies and in this point, enhancing performance and quality needs to be treated more importantly
than responding to cost cut demand.

1.3 Marketing Objectives

Synergy effect in enabling sales people to offer various products, which can fill various customer needs
We aim to maximize Ricoh TDV with DDs unique features - inexpensive high volume printing capability and low unit price as
well as MFP and LP offer variable printings and finishing functions. Combination use of MFP or Printer and Digital Duplicator
brings about a good synergy effect and defeats competitors such as Canon, Xerox and Riso who do not have sufficient lineups
of various printing solution products as Ricoh does.
Above all, the HP4R2.5 plays a roll as a Ricoh solution product with @Remote capability* that allows print job management
and lead to low cost operation, enabling to accelerate synergy sales with Ricoh MFP and LP and expand the unit sales in North
America and Europe.
*Auto meter reading and fleet reporting are available with installation of Basil.
Target educational market in North America and Europe

The current market share analysis shows (see the following page) Ricoh has 35% share in US and less than 20% share in
Europe for the total 400dpi segment in spite of the great cost performance and the superior image quality. We will target
educational market and religious market (for US) where there still is a lot of potential and aim to surpass competitors with
specification upgrades such as @Remote capability, enhanced networkability, fine mode etc. that are demanded from the
markets as well, looked at as winning criteria for tenders. In addition, we will play an active role to promote sales expansions in
these target markets in cooperation with each regional headquarter by proposing concrete sales strategies.
Seize sales portion from low-end models

Mid to high-end segments are more focused in the 16th mid-term business plan. We will have more promotion activities on
selling mid to high-end models and aim to seize sales portion from low-end models. In developing countries, increasing unit
sales in response to customer needs for machine reliability and enhanced functionality will lead to raising the supply coverage

rate in total and the after market sales profit as well as is proven in data thanks to HQ supplies.

2.2 Fine Mode

The machine makes master in 400 x 600dpi when Fine mode is selected on the operation panel*. It is suitable for photo
image and important document. In another aspect, it can make a very advantageous specification against other manufactures
300 x 600 dpi models especially in tender business.

2.3 Enhanced Color Ink Variation

2.3.1. Custom Made Color Inks New!
Custom Made Color Inks have been one of the best features achieved on Digital Duplicator while not being achieved on
MFP/LP. Demands for spot color printing on stationeries with the original company / organization color still remain strong.
Evaluation tests for the current non-RGS compliant CM color inks for HP4 series were conducted and confirmed they meet the
Ricoh Global Standard. In 2008, we re-launched CM color inks as RGS (Ricoh Global Standard) compliant products that are
guaranteed by Ricoh.

2.2.3. Additional Colors in Standard Ink

New color variations Reflex blue, Hunter green, Burgundy and Violet are newly available as the Type VI color ink in
response to requests from end users.

2.5.1. Better Paper Alignment
New paper delivery tray ensures better paper alignment. By adding Buffer Fins
on the side fences, it slows papers falling down and reduces set-off. Customers can
move printed papers smoothly to finishing operations.
2.5.2. Retry Paper Feed

Retry paper feed mechanism that was invented for model PG. The reliability was proved at
several field tests and market place where the most poor quality paper is used. Even thin and
irregular sized paper does not affect its productivity.

2.6.1. RPCS Network Controller FVLT

New network controller FV-Lt achieves more functions with reasonable price than the predecessor EG-Lt. Customer can use it
with the same usability as Ricoh MFP/LP through RPCS. Enhanced networkability gives the HP4R2.5 more possibility to
enter into government offices, schools and corporations where LAN environment is well established.

Versatility with Ricoh Network utilities Web Image Monitor, Smart Device Monitor for Admin (Laurel) and Desktop Binder
SmartDeviceMonitor (Maple) for Client makes it easier to make joint sales with MFP/LP.

customer like to control the usage for cost-wise operation. Adding this capability not only boosts joint sales proposal with MFP
and LP, but also accelerates sales to customers who already have Basil in their LAN

2.7 Color Universal Responded Design

In line with the all Ricoh policy, the HP4R2.5 responds to the color universal concept. Keypads, LED and decals are more
visible with new color and lead to easier operation.

2.8 Auto Shut-off

Auto Shut-off function enables further power consumption saving. In user settings, customer can choose either Auto
Shut-off or Energy Saver mode. If Auto Shut-off is chosen, the machine will be completely shut off after a certain period of
time. Customer turns on the main power switch for re-start. As the power consumption becomes zero after Auto Shut-off, it
contributes to environmental care.
2.9 Enhanced Security

User tool access lock is added for security enhancement. In environments where anyone can access the machine, this function
keeps the user tool settings from being changed without administrators permission. Access is controlled by password that
administrator creates as he/she wishes.
2.10 Extended Language Selection
New!
Traditional Chinese, Russian and Turkish are newly available on the LCD display in line with increasing demands for this
model in these countries.
