SO WHAT HAPPENED?

Its mid-summer in Australia and the coldest part of the year north of the
equator, where freezing temperatures dominate the northern hemisphere.
Cold temperatures are associated with pristine conditions and freshness that is
symbolically tied to the sign of Aquarius.
February gets its name from the Latin word Februum, meaning purification.
Although Aquarius is an air sign, the symbol of the water-bearer is connected
to this idea of cleansing and purification, since water is the universal solvent.
Rain and sleet, snow and hail bring cleansing and renewal to the land.
This Full Moon in Leo highlights the extremes in temperature that happen at
this juncture of the astrology calendar. As I write, a major cold front and winter storm (appropriately named Juno) is battering the New England region of
the US. Fifteen degrees of fixed signs marks the midpoint between the Solstic-

es and the Equinoxes. A cross quarter day,
this Full Moon at 14LE48 with the Sun at
14AQ48, aligns almost exactly with this
point. Known as Imbolc this part of the
year was celebrated as a time of cleansing.
Imbolc is a forerunner of the American
tradition of Groundhog Day, celebrated
on Feb 2 each year. According to folklore
if the groundhog comes out of its burrow into the
sunshine, an early spring is forecast. If it quickly re-

This Full Moon is in close proximity to the asteroid
Juno and notably her mythic husband, sky god Jupiter. As you gaze at the February Full Moon you will
see Jupiter shining brightly nearby. This group
makes a happy trine to Uranus, which is still aligning with the Nodal Axis, opening up fresh creative
opportunities. This Full Moon is likely to stir the adventurer, the artist and the innovator within us, but

these stirrings could also take us out of our comfort

zone. The Moon makes an uncomfortable quincunx
with Pluto, so some emotional discomfort can be expected. Psychosomatic illness can be experienced with
this aspect, especially if inner tension blocks the free
expression of feelings.
Leo is above all a creative sign, associated with the joy
of self expression, so engaging in some form of artistic
or dynamic expression will be highly rewarding. Likewise going to a live show, or play is another great way
to celebrate life. The stellium of planets in Pisces is also
encouraging us to engage in some form of artistic expression.
Mercury is still retrograde which helps us focus inwardly and concentrate. This makes it a great time to
learn new techniques and skills, and with the new
school year commencing now, enrolling in a creative
class is a wonderful learning opportunity.

Aquarius New Moon & Chinese New Year

Its been almost two years since weve had a VenusMars conjunction. The last time the cosmic lovers
were together was on 7 April 2013. This extended
interval between conjunctions (23 months) is the
longest possible gap between sequential conjunctions
of Venus and Mars. This makes this conjunction of
Venus and Mars a very welcome reminder of the value and power of love.
This conjunction ties a neat bow around Valentines
Day, which falls just a few days earlier, so this is the
perfect time to forge new relationships and connections, especially for singles.

act independently. Neptune in Pisces symbolises the
desire to become part of something much bigger than
ourselves. When we lose ourselves in this way, there
is no sense of personal responsibility, because is a

In a way, Uranus is an antidote to this collective soup
because it awakens the capacity to act and think independently and creatively. After March, when Uranus
is freed from the shackles of Pluto, we may see an
awakening of sorts.
