There is a planned and systematic approach to implementing the health and safety policy through an effective health and safety management system which is set out in this policy. Performance is measured against agreed standards in each safety policy and combined procedure to reveal when and where improvement is needed. The Foundation is committed to learning from all relevant experience and applying the lessons learned. This is accomplished through the Foundations commitment to and the effective working of its Safety Committee. Risk assessments are carried out and reviewed annually by the safety committee. Managers are responsible for ensuring that adequate risk assessments are carried out and that all relevant health and safety procedures and guidance are implemented. Managers are also responsible for ensuring that adequate care and support plans are in place for residents and that facilities are configured to meet the safety needs of disabled and elderly people.
To ensure effective governance, the Chair of the Safety Committee prepares

Policy statement The Foundation is committed to meeting its obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and all relevant regulations, approved codes of practice and guidance relevant to the organisations operations. We also ensure compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. The Foundation undertakes to provide a safe and healthy working environment for our employees and to take all reasonable steps to safeguard the health and safety of our service users, visitors and the general public that may be affected by the conduct of our activities employees or agents. The Foundation will provide adequate resources, plant and equipment including people, time and money along with information instruction and training to ensure a safe environment is provided. The Foundation will consult with employees on matters affecting their health and safety and encourage employee involvement and cooperation in health and safety through the safety committee. The health and safety policy, risk assessments and supporting documentation are kept up to date and formally reviewed by the safety committee. Copies of these documents are also made available to contractors, consultants, service providers and other agents engaged by the organisation. The Foundation undertakes relevant risk assessments and regularly audits safety performance to provide a safe and healthy working environment for its employees and to safeguard the health and safety of service users, visitors and the general public that may be affected by the conduct and activities of its employees or agents. The Foundation will ensure all employees are competent to do their tasks and are able to prevent accidents or work-related ill health, by providing adequate training and supervision. All employees must take reasonable care of the health and safety of themselves and others, co-operate in all matters relating to health and safety and not act recklessly or misuse tools, equipment or materials required to carry out their job. Employees must also take reasonable care of their own and others health and safety and co-operate to ensure high health and safety standards are maintained. No employee is required to work in circumstances where there is an imminent or serious risk of injury. Where employees are concerned about any aspect of their safety they should report the matter immediately to their line manager or trade union representative for action to be taken. Failure to comply with the organisations safety policy, associated procedures and guidance notes is a disciplinary offence.
