REPUBLICA BOLIVARIANA DE VENEZUELATHE

ZULIAN GAITA:

Started as the rhythm of a region and today cheers across Venezuela with its Christmas
product of the cultural mix.

There are many hypotheses which are managed with respect to the emergence of the gaita
zuliana. For some is the product of the African legacy, for others of the Spanish with the
indigenous. But perhaps most successful would be to say that bagpipe is only one expression
of the mixture of different cultures who sought to celebrate, describe or denounce a way of life.
In fact, many of the instruments used have their legacy in several regions of the world
geography. For example, the zambomba, Spanish instrument used since the times of the
colony, is the father of the furro Piper; the use of drums makes it clear the Negroid influence on
this rate and the maracas, the indigenous.
What is clear, however, is that this name has nothing to do with the iconic Scottish instrument
but with a musical tradition that existed in the Galician, Asturian, and Basque provinces of
Spain.
This consisted of a set full of joy who gathered around the Galician bagpipe carrying tip or the
start-up of the ditties.
Afterwards, this demonstration entered zulianas lands, where was versioned with the Cadence
of Latin America, suffered changes and evolutions, which depended on both the historical
moment and the budget of the performers, so finally I could talk of a new genre.

Today, has established a classification of the types of gaita zuliana throughout history
and they are presented below:

-Folk gaita (disappeared)

-Modernized traditional bagpipe
-Popular bagpipe
-Romantic gaita
-Other aspects
The theme that the performers of this genre handle is infinite and goes from songs to love and
religious figures to humorous topics and complaint.
In recent years, the political element has been protagonist of many subjects; in this way, the

bagpipers have denounced, in particular, what they see as injustices committed against the
inhabitants of the country.
