The Horizon Going Forward


In the fall of 2011 the Clubs Board of Directors, the Club General Manager, and Club Head Coach
participated in a one day Planning Workshop to refresh the Clubs vision, values, and strategic
priorities.
The workshop included a review of:
The Club mission/vision and operating; and
Identification of the issues and strategic priorities going forward.
Mission/Vision
The mission/vision statement as established in the Club Constitution was not changed.
In identifying the Strategic Priorities for the Club, the following themes for success were considered in
order of priority: player development; responsible management; volunteer involvement; equal
opportunity at all levels; stabilized field access, indoor and outdoor; member achievement; and
recognition of coaches and members.
Strategic Priorities
The Strategic Priorities identified were the following:
Development of the LTPD concept
Development of a marketing strategy
Increase Club membership
Conduct operational review
Develop volunteer support
The Strategic Priorities for the period 2013 2015 were updated by the Board in the fall of 2012 to
form the basis of this Plan and approved by the Board of Directors on February 10, 2013.

Strategic Priorities - Moving Forward


The Strategic Priorities of the Club are focused on the following five (5) key areas with a vision and
goals elaborated for each area:
Player Development
Coach Development
Club Development
Organizational Development
Facilities Development

Player Development
Vision:
Full implementation of OSA Technical Criteria and Recreational and Competitive Matrices

Goal:
To educate all players, parents, coaches and officials so they understand the new player development
pathway as it is being implemented by the Club.

Goal:
To develop NHSCs most talented players to their maximum potential and to expose them to
opportunities to play the game at the highest possible level.

Goal:
To secure entry into the OPDL starting in 2014.

Goal:
To continue to provide our players access to the Toronto FC Academy via the Club Affiliation Program.

Goal:
To have a minimum of 6 Hotspurs players graduating into the Canadian University/School/College
soccer system annually.

Coach Development
Vision:
Hotspurs will continue to have the most qualified coaching staff in Eastern Ontario District.

Goal:
To continue the effective implementation of our coach education and development plan for all
coaches involved in our youth recreational programs.

Goal:
To increase the number of qualified coaches coaching our elite competitive teams.

Goal:
Initiate a female coach mentoring program and support at least one female in the acquisition of a
Pre-B or Provincial B license.

Goal:
Prepare three coaches for the successful acquisition of a Pre-B or Provincial B license each year and at
least one coach in the acquisition of a National B license.

Club Development
Vision:
The membership of the Club will be sufficient to support effective and efficient operation of its
programs.

Goal:
To increase the number of registrants in youth recreational programs.

Goal:
To increase the number of registrants in youth competitive programs so that the Club can field at least
one youth team in all ages and levels of competition.

Goal:
To maintain the number a registrants in senior soccer programs.

Organizational Development
Vision:
To be recognized as a well managed Club that provides excellent programs and services.

Goal:
To improve the quality and accessibility of information available to our members and the public.

Goal:
To promote Club excellence and success to internal and external stakeholders.

Goal:
To promote and recognize the Clubs top players and coaches.

Facilities Development
Vision:
The Hotspurs will have access to the best facilities available in the City of Ottawa to support
the operation of its Elite teams (OPDL and OYSL).

Goal:
To gain access to turf fields as required for Elite teams operation.

Goal:
To improve the quality of 2 fields in the area primarily served by the Hotspurs (turf and lights).
