INTRODUCTION

Computer is a machine that performs tasks under the control of a set of


instructions called a program. Programs usually reside within the computer and are
retrieved and processed by the computers electronics. It performs a wide variety of
activities quickly.
Various examination methods used in higher education institutions to assess
academic progress, for example, paper-pencil-based examinations, assignments,
presentations, and many others. The most commonly used are examinations. The rapid
advancement of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in teaching and
learning has shifted the paradigm from paper-pencil-based to computer-based system of
examinations which are usually termed as Computer Based Testing (CBT).
A computer-based examination is an offline test and test generator. It can be
available anytime and give instant results at the end of the exam. It can address certain
problems during school examination. Some of its benefits is flexibility, gives instant
results, data management and accessibility. Due to the inclusion of ICTs in education, it is
required to re-consider and rethink, modify or change the traditional examination
methods. Electronic assessment tools had reduced the burden of teachers and facilitate to
conduct examinations purposefully.
Computer and related technologies provide powerful tools to meet the new
challenges of designing and implementing assessments methods that go beyond the
conventional practices and facilitate to record a broader repertoire of cognitive skills and

General Problem
How to develop a Computerized Examination System with Test Bank Generator

that will help the teachers provide and check examinations efficiently.
Valenzuela Christian School recently has around 20 to 25 teachers that teach both
in elementary and high school level. Due to their manual process in creating
examinations, teachers find it hard to create test questionnaires efficiently. Every single
teacher is given a minimum of 7 subject loads and a maximum of 10. Because they teach
both levels it takes a lot of time in recording exam scoresand checking student answer
sheets which is common during examination period at school.

1.1.2.1 How to develop a module that will help the teachers create examination

questionnaires?
Creation of exam questionnaires is one of the tedious tasks of teachers
considering the heavy subject loads that they supervise in different levels.
1.1.2.2 How to develop a module that will provide an auto generated
examination?
Selection of questions that will be implemented in the test questionnaires is a
tedious task considering they only provide a paper based examination.
1.1.2.3 How to develop a module that will automatically check the examinations
of the students?
Teachers are given 2 days deadline by the school to compute all the
students test results and then forward it to the school administrator. It is time-consuming
for them due to the 7 to 10 subject loads under their supervision.

Current State of Technology


The school recently has 20 to 25 teachers both in elementary and high school.

Every single teacher is given a minimum of 7 subject loads and a maximum of 10 subject
loads. Elementary teachers can only teach elementary level while high school teachers
can teach both in elementary and high school level.
They are only given a 2 days deadline by the school administrator to compute and submit
grades after every major examination. They will submit grades and other reports straight
to the school administrator.
Creating examinations in Valenzuela Christian School are all done manually. But before
creating the examination questionnaires, the teachers should seek first the approval of the
principal. Upon the approval, the teachers can not create the questions and encode it in
Microsoft Word. It will be printed afterwards using Epson LX-300.
Because of this manual creation of exam questionnaires that they need to create again and
again, the teachers take a lot of time and effort in doing the exam, checking papers and
computing results.

Objectives

General Objective
To develop a Computerized Examination System with Test Bank

Generator that will help the teachers provide and check examinations efficiently.
1.3.2

Specific Objectives

1.3.2.1 To develop a module that will help the teachers create examination
questionnaires.
The proposed system will enhance the creation of exam questionnaires.
There will be an auto create of exam wherein they can create exam automatically.
1.1.3.2 To develop a module that will provide an auto generated examination.
An auto generated examination is a process of selecting questions for exams
in an auto generated manner wherein questions are taken randomly at the Test Bank
module.
1.3.2.3 To develop a module that will automatically check the examinations of the
students.
Monitoring a 7 to 10 subject loads will not be a hassle to teachers
anymore. The proposed system will automatically check examinations of the students by
providing instant results after taking the exam.

Scope and Limitations


Scope

Log In Module

This module allows the user to access the system. It requires a username
and password. It consists of three different user levels which are the
Administrator, Teacher and Student. After 3 unsuccessful attempts in
logging in the user account will lock. The Admin will activate it for the
user to be able to use the his/her account again.

File Maintenance Module

This module allows the administrator and teacher to add, edit, delete, save
and search information within the system. It consists of User Account,
User Level, Test Bank, Question Bank, Grade Level, Section, Subject and
Teacher Account. Question Bank has Multiple Choice, Identification and
True or False question types.

Registration Module

This module can be accessed by the Administrator, Teacher and Registered


Students. The school will implement accounts for students for them to log
in in the computerized examination.

Transaction Module

Auto Creating Examination


This module can be accessed by the Administrator and Teacher. The
administrator can view all the subjects within the module while the teacher
can only view the subjects under his/her supervision. It consists of the
examination that the students will take. It is connected to the Test Bank
wherein the teacher can create examinations automatically. The questions
are taken from the test bank randomly depending on the level of difficulty.
Manual Creating Examination
This module can be accessed by the Administrator and Teacher. The
administrator can view all the subjects within the module while the teacher
can only view the subjects under his/her supervision. It consists of the

examination that the students will take. It is connected to the Test Bank
wherein the teacher can manually select questions.
Set Examination
This module can be accessed by the Administrator and Teacher wherein
they can automatically set the examination. Major Examination can only
be set by the administrator while Minor Examinations can only be set by
the teacher.

Test Bank Generator Module

Periodical Examination
This module can be accessed by the Administrator and Teacher. They can
view all the questions from the Test Bank. This module has classification
of the examinations namely Major examination and Minor examination.
The student can only view the examination exclusively; they cannot see
the back-end of the module.

Report Module

Paper Examination
This module can be accessed by the Administrator and Teacher. Its
purpose is to print necessary information under the Reports module.
Examination Results
This module can be accessed by the Administrator and Teacher. This
module shows the examination result including the necessary information
of the student.
Student List
This module can be viewed by the administrator and teacher wherein it
will show students names who are enrolled including their information.
Teacher List
This module can be viewed by the administrator wherein it will show
teachers names who are currently employed including their information.

Subject List
This module can be viewed by the administrator and teacher wherein it
will show all the subjects of the current curriculum.
Student Answers
This module can be accessed by the Administrator and Teacher. This
module shows the answers of students in their examination including the
necessary information of the student.
Audit Trail
This module can view the history of the transaction of the system and can
only be accessed by the Administrator.

Settings

Reset
This module can be viewed by the Administrator wherein examination can
be reset.
Set Question Timer
This module can be accessed by the Administrator and Teacher wherein
they can enable or disable the timer and set the time for the examination.
Set Item Limit
This module can be accessed by the Administrator and Teacher wherein
they can add, edit and save necessary number of questions within the
examination. There will be a maximum and minimum number of
questions for each exam type.

Utilities

Archive
This module can be viewed by the Administrator and Teacher. It serves as
a recycle bin of the system where deleted information can be restored.
Blocked Accounts
This can be viewed by the Administrator wherein blocked accounts are
listed. Blocked accounts can also be restored.

Change Password
This module serves as an opportunity to the Administrator and Teacher to
change his/her password.

Student Portal

Start Examination
This module allows the Student to start and take the examination.
View Grades and Answers
This module allows the Student to view his/her grades and review their
answers.
Change Password
This module allows the Student to change his/her password.

Feedback

This module is for Teacher and Student wherein the teacher can send
feedback to his/her student regarding the examination.

Student Examination Status

This module can be accessed by the Administrator and Teacher. It allows


the teacher to monitor the current status of the student whether he/she has
an examination permit.
Limitations
The system is LAN-based.
Entrance examination for new students and transferees.
Examinations with images, diagrams, charts, and the like.
Examinations requiring mathematical computations.
Checking of essay type of exams.
Matching type, fill in the blanks and enumeration type of

exams.
