Garage City is not all sun and sand C & C Surf Factorys take is edgier and grittier than you might expect. Songs like
Cobra Basket and Fire on the Dance Floor have sharp edges and dark corners, and live closer to the White Stripes
than the Beach Boys. Belt Buckle is a trippy, swirling slow burn, and conjures more Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
than it does Wipe Out.
C & C Surf Factory filters the best of 60s surf style think wet reverb, Fender amps and a stable of electric guitars
through the modernday guitar wizardry and unimpeachable cool of founding members Colin Cripps (Blue Rodeo,
Kathleen Edwards) and Champagne James Robertson (Lindi Ortega, New Country Rehab). The two began working on
instrumental guitar pieces in 2012, and took the project in a direction sharply away from the world of roots, country
and blues of their main gigs.
Why surf rock? The genre spotlights the guitar as a melodic instrument, which provided two of Canadas most in
demand slingers the irresistible opportunity to obsess over tone, history, playing styles and obscure musical acts
(Hank Marvin and the Shadows and the Ventures, for example). Ultimately, the direction was a byproduct of our love
for lowend twang and a common interest in wanting to play songs without words, says Champagne James.
C & C Surf Factory has grown to include Sly Juhas on drums, Ryan Gavel on bass (P Bass, naturally), and Chris Stringer
on keys and percussion. The band played shows in between busy touring and recording schedules, and quickly became
a hot ticket at Torontos best music hangs.
Now, with Garage City, a retro, but not rosecoloured, collection of beach vibes and vibrato, C & C Surf Factory officially
joins the Six Shooter roster, where musical excellence of all stripes finds a home.

Founded by vocalist/bassist JanChris De Koeijer and guitarist Frank Harthoorn in 1989, GOREFEST released their debut album
'Mindloss' in 1991 after they attracted quite some attention in the extreme Metal underground. Signing to Nuclear Blast in 1992
the band issued several legendary albums that quickly gained cult status and showed the band from a far more technical and
sophisticated side. 'Chapter 13', GOREFEST's swan song, was released in 1998 and it continued with the band's interest in classic
rock. However, just before the end of the year, the band announced its breakup.

'Rise To Ruin' was GOREFEST's 7th studio album. Many people were surprised of the harshness of the comeback album 'La Muerte'
two years earlier. It was a great album, stuffed with elements from everything that GOREFEST have ever done. You could say the
same about 'Rise To Ruin' but this time the Dutch Death Metal institution is taking it even further. Faster, harder, louder!

Formed in 1982 in Baldwin, Long Island, The Crumbsuckers

were inspired by the initial wave of hardcore punk spearheaded
in America by bands such as Los Angeles Black Flag,
Washington D.C. s Minor Threat and Detroit s Negative
Approach. Their combination of musical prowess and blindingly
fast songs landed them a contract with Combat Records home to
such heavy hitting acts as Exodus, Circle Jerks and Megadeth at
the time and put them at the forefront of the crossover movement
of the mid-80 s which merged the raw power of hardcore punk
with the complexity of heavy metal.
Craig Fuller and Eric Kaz had already teamed up in American

Flyer (along with Blood, Sweat & Tears Steve Katz and the
Velvet Underground s Doug Yule) before they collaborated on
this 1978 album, but their pedigrees went way farther back than
that band. Fuller made his debut with J.D. Blackfoot in 1970 and
co-founded Pure Prairie League (for whom he wrote Amie
among other PPL classics), while Kaz had cut his teeth with
Children of Paradise (along with Happy and Artie Traum) before
joining Blues Magooes for two records and cutting two solo
records for Atlantic.
Their debut LP from 1986, Life of Dreams, is considered a

landmark release in the genre of crossover containing such
ferocious classics as Sit There, Bullshit Society and Hub Run,
which are all delivered with an added crunch courtesy of
producer Norman Dunn, the man responsible for such other
crossover classics as Agnostic Front s Cause for Alarm and the
debut release by Brooklyn s Carnivore. For Beast on My Back,
the bands second and final record from 1988, they worked with
Megadeth producer Randy Burns.
With a track record like that, its no surprise that this record
sported the crme de la crme of supporting musicians: J.D.
Souther, Russ & Leah Kunkel, Leland Sklar, Michael McDonald,
Leo Sayer all played prominent supporting roles, while Grammywinning producer Val Garay (Kim Carnes, James Taylor, Linda
Ronstadt, Ringo Starr, Santana, etc.) oversaw the proceedings.
But, as always, its the songs that make this album a lost classic
of West Coast 70s rock Craig Fuller/Eric Kaz features the
definitive version of Kazs Cry Like a Rainstorm, which was the
title tune of Linda Ronstadts 1978 Grammy-nominated album, as
well as such great tunes as Annabella and Feel That Way Again.
Real Gone Music presents both of these groundbreaking

releases for the first time on one compact disc with liner notes
written by Tony Rettman; author of NYHC New York Hardcore
1980 1990.

In 1971, Atlantic Records released a pair of Dusty Springfield

singles produced by the legendary songwriter/producer Jeff
Barry (one-time songwriting and romantic partner of Ellie
Greenwich, and author of too many hits to name):
"Haunted"/"Nothing Is Forever" and "I Believe In You"/"Someone
Who Cares." A restless Dusty, freshly relocating to America from
her native England, then departed the label and left an additional
9 songs recorded with Barry in the can, where they stayed until
Rhino issued one track, "Faithful" (in mono), as a bonus track on
the 1990s CD release of Dusty's 1970 Atlantic album A Brand
New Me.
Now, reissue producer Jim Pierson who tracked down the
missing masters after being lost for over two decades has
assembled all of Dusty s Barry-produced masters and put them
together in a single package for the first time to create the third
Dusty Springfield Atlantic Records album as planned in 1971.
Real Gone Music s release of Faithful presents these historic
Barry-Springfield collaborations exactly as they were originally
intended to be heard, with the 12 tracks intended for the album
release and one intended for single-only release. All tracks are in
stereo, while the liner notes, penned by The Second Disc's Joe
Marchese, feature a number of rarely-seen photos of the
legendary singer. These stunning pop, soul and gospel flavored
selections showcase the iconic singer at the height of her vocal
magic. A missing/jumbled part of Dustys recorded legacy, finally
set right!

With the passing of Jesse Winchester last year, America lost one
of its truly great singer-songwriters, but here is an unexpected
release that will remind both his fans and those new to his art
what a remarkable talent he was.
Seems Like Only Yesterday Live in Montreal 1976 presents, for
the first time anywhere since it aired, the 1976 radio broadcast
from Montreal that marked the first time anyone in the United
States had heard Jesse perform live since his exile in Canada as
a draft resister began in the late 60s (it was also the first-ever live
show broadcast internationally on stereo FM radio). And, in what
had to have been an emotional occasion for Jesse, he rises to
the occasion with a sterling set (featuring a full band) that
included such classics as Mississippi Youre on My Mind
(covered by Jerry Jeff Walker among many others), Yankee Lady
(cut by Tim Hardin, Brewer & Shipley and Melanie), Brand New
Tennessee Waltz and the underground radio stoner classic
Twigs and Seeds, plus some beautiful covers of songs made
famous by other artists, like the Everly Brothers Bowling Green.
Crystal clear sound, liner notes by long-time Winchester fan
Gene Sculatti, and photos help make this one of the year s
biggest singer-songwriter finds, and a timely tribute to the artist.

The signs were not exactly auspicious for the tribes trekking to
Madison Square Garden for this mid-September 1990 show less
than two months had passed since the death of Brent Mydland,
Vince Welnick had taken over keyboard duties earlier in the
month, and Bruce Hornsby had joined the band just the night
before!
But despite all the turmoil and turnover, the band gelled this night
to a really remarkable degree, which is a testimony both to the
Dead s musical chops and their indomitable, improvisational
spirit. Welnick and Hornsby transform such warhorses as Little
Red Rooster, Queen Jane Approximately, and Iko Iko into
dazzling keyboard showcases, while the rest of the band and
particularly Phil Lesh, who is just on fire throughout shines on
such tunes as Tennessee Jed, Looks Like Rain and Morning
Dew.
The jams, including the whimsically titled No MSG Jam and
Lunatic Preserve, are stellar as well there is a reason this was
the first Dicks Pick to feature a concert from the 90s. Out of print
for years!

Dick s Picks Vol. 11 was not only the first concert from 1972 to
be released in the series, but also was the first full concert from
that hallowed year ever to be released by the Dead.
At the time, it sparked some controversy it seemed like (and still
does!) every Deadhead had his or her favorite 1972 show but as
usual, compiler Dick Latvala came through with an (American)
beauty, highlighted by one of the greatest Dark Star versions
ever recorded, with a bonus of a one-time-only segue into
Cumberland Blues.
This volume also delivers an interesting set list marked by quite a
bit of material from the debut solo albums by Jerry Garcia
(Garcia) and Bob Weir (Ace), both of which had come out earlier
that year.
Weve seen quite a few folks claim this album actually tops
Europe 72, but maybe a better way to put it is to say it
complements it, with a bunch of new material added to the
repertoire and a new, post-Pigpen line-up playing at a very high
level on this side of the pond. Out of print for years!

It Is A Great Esoteric And Experimental Album! Deluxe

Once described by Edward Ka-Spel as a companion to Chemical
Playschool: Vols. 11, 12 & 13, Synesthesia is finally pressing in
Deluxe Double Vinyl Edition.It is a great Esoteric and
Experimental album totally original in comparison to All the King's
Horses and All the King's Men, the two "song" albums released
later that same year. Brilliant excursion into ambient abstraction
in the "Premonition 26/Premonition 28 sequence, in matters of
experimental music, "Flashback" is much successful with its
creaking sounds and ghostly, ectoplasmic aural reminiscences.
Song-wise, "Shining Path" and "The More It Stays the Same" are
great efforts, and put Synesthesia being an essential LPD title.
Historically, it is noteworthy for being the first album featuring the
quartet lineup of Ka-Spel, the Silverman, Niels van Hoorn, and
Martijn de Kleer, with Raymond Steeg in the control room. Great

Originally formed in 1964 and known as The Poets, the New

York-based trio of Luther Simmons Jr., Tony Silvester and
Donald McPherson recorded a couple of singles for RCA
Records before a name change in 1968 to The Main Ingredient.
Their first album, L.T.D. (from the initials of each member), was
released in 1970 and consisted of six original songs penned by
the group along with a medley of two songs written by Jimmy
Webb, By the Time I Get to Phoenix and Wichita Lineman, both
originally recorded by Glen Campbell; and a cover of The
Beatles Get Back. Production was primarily by renowned
arranger Bert DeCoteaux (who would later become a coproducer with Tony Silvester of hits for Ben E. King, Sister
Sledge and others), with one track produced by acclaimed New
York conductor/arranger Horace Ott. The album contained four
singles, one of which, Youve Been My Inspiration, was a Top 30
R&B hit.

After a follow-up album, Tasteful Soul, the group self-produced
their third release, 1971 s Black Seeds, which boasted two
singles with Black Seeds Keep On Growing, a black
empowerment anthem penned by McPherson, reaching No. 15
on the U.S. R&B charts. Sadly, after a sudden and unexpected
illness, McPherson succumbed to leukemia before the LP was
released. The album was dedicated to his memory by the two
remaining members, who added Cuba Gooding, Sr. as their third
member in 1972.

In what would turn out to be the final years of his short life, jazz
great Julian Cannonball Adderley embarked on a number of
ambitious, genre-stretching projects. The last of these was
1975's Big Man, the score for a musical play based on the John
Henry ( the steel driving man ) American folk legend. The album
was released as a two-LP set with libretto, and featured music
from Adderley and his then-current musical associates including
brother Nat Adderley, George Duke (using the alias Dawilli
Gonga ), Roy McCurdy, Airto Moreira, Carol Kaye and others.
The sessions also made full use of a large string section and
chorus, while the primary vocalists in Big Man sang and read
their lines in character; the vocal cast included lead vocalist Joe
Williams, Randy Crawford (making her professional debut on
record here at age 21), and Robert Guillaume (later to win two
Emmy Awards for his work on TV series Soap and Benson, and
a Grammy Award for his work connected to The Lion King).
Long out of print and never before issued on CD, Real Gone
Music's reissue of Big Man boasts liner notes by Bill Kopp (Kopp
also penned the liners for RGM's first Adderley reissue, The
Black Messiah) with quotes from Robert Guillaume, and the full
libretto, with remastering by Joe Tarantino. The final artistic
statement from a jazz giant!

poetry of German poet, playwright and thinker Bertolt Brecht
(1898 - 1956). The album is composed of 11 classic Brecht's
songs, here revisited according to Massimo & Pierce's irreverent
attitude. Massimo & Pierce invited some of their friends to
contribute to operettAmorale : - COIL recorded the song A List of
Wishes (one of the latest studio performances by Johnn
Balance) purposely for this album. - LYDIA LUNCH delivered his
incomparable voice for The Ballad of Sexual Dependency - HR
GIGER contributed with the cover artwork and a vocal cameo
appearance on Seeruber-Jenny.
Available on vinyl once again! This 1981 EP features the

Plasmatics keeping their punk roots while embracing more metal

Richard Pryor and part of his style, but I'm female - minus the penis!" Rain is a multi-talented woman. In addition to being a stand-up
comedian headlining across the country, she is a director, producer, writer, actor, activist, dynamic speaker and mother. Her TV debut was
in a recurring role on the ABC hit series "Head of The Class". She starred on the Showtime series "Rude Awakening" and has appeared
many times on Johnny Carson, Jay Leno and Craig Ferguson. As well as stage credits for playing the roles of Billie Holiday and Ella
Fitzgerald, she has performed her award winning solo show "Fried Chicken and Latkes", which she created and wrote including original

God in Three Persons is a tremendously complex project--a

Residents novel in its symbolic depth. The album explores the
relationship between a pair of androgynous Siamese twins and
the cowboy who loves them. The narrative tells the story of the
cowboy's exploitation of the twins talents as faith healers, and
the furtive sexual dalliances that builds to a spectacular and
disturbing climax.
The story combines all the dualities--love and hate, tenderness
and violence, heterosexuality and homosexuality, sin and purity,
earthiness and transcendence. All these dualities will forever

STARCHASER: THE LEGEND OF ORIN was produced in

Hollywood and animated in South Korea. For the first time, the
film's 3D animation would be computer controlled, incorporating
a unique process that would involve the use of a pair of large
plotters, resulting in a three-dimensional effect even among
characters that are two-dimensional drawings. The final touch in
bringing to life the film's exciting adventure story is the lavish
orchestral score composed by Andrew Belling. Meeting with first
time director Steven Hahn, Belling was encouraged to write a
large scale orchestral score, evocative of John Williams' work on
the STAR WARS films.
His score for STARCHASER is a mix of orchestra, electronics,
and drum-loops, the latter giving the film's memorable main
theme its constant, purposeful drive. In addition to its unique 3-D
visualization, STARCHASER was also mixed in surround sound,
a 5-channel stereophonic process, with 3 channels in the front
and 2 in the rear, which had been growing in popularity as
cinemas moved from the traditional monophonic sound process
of previous decades into a more immersive aural experience,
which allowed Belling to mix the score's electronic elements in a
way that would take advantage of the sonic dimensionality
inherent within the process.

Real Gone Music concludes its survey of Rick Wakeman s solo

recordings for the A&M label with yet another first-time-on-CD-inthe-U.S. release, this time of his last album for the label, a
double-LP from 1979.
Unlike many of his other solo records, Rhapsodies consists of
short, largely improvisational pieces (17 in all for a 2-LP set that
is practically Ramones-style for this composer!) that are
brimming with the whimsy and prodigious chops weve come to
expect from the erstwhile Yes keyboardist.
On the lighter side are the opening track, Pedra da Gavea, which
sets keyboard licks and processed vocals to none other than a
Bo Diddley beat, and Swan Lager, which arranges one of the
main themes from Swan Lake as a reggae number!
But Wakemans closing solo piano take on Summertime is
nothing short of gorgeous, and reminds us that, lurking behind
the prog rock god/clown faade, was a sensitive and fully mature
artist...when he wanted to be. Otherwise, enjoy the dizzying
array of musical ideas and motifs from the flying fingers of Mr.
Wakeman, with artful annotation by Bill Kopp.

Tim Berne s third ECM album, Youve Been Watching Me, sees the saxophonist-composer
again leading his ultra-dynamic New York band Snakeoil, but with the quartet now a
quintet with the arrival of guitarist Ryan Ferreira, whose sound adds textural allure. The
groups 2013 release, Shadow Man, garnered Berne some of the highest praise of his
career as a composer and bandleader, with Jazz Times marveling over how his work grows
wilder and deeper. The four-star Down Beat review said: This music rocks and thinks,
explores, deconstructs and, yes, it swings, in its own identifiably angular, Berne-ian way.
Just as Berne has hit a new peak with his writing on You ve Been Watching Me, his band
has reached a heightened state of collective interaction, realizing the compositions to a
tee. Snakeoil with the leader on alto sax alongside pianist Matt Mitchell, clarinetist Oscar
Noriega, percussionist Ches Smith and Ferreira on electric and acoustic guitars can still be
bracingly kinetic. But there is new space in these compositions and more lyrical focus to
the improvisations, leading to a dramatic, even cinematic experience in such tracks as
Embraceable Me. Put simply, Berne s music has never been richer or more arresting.
