Water Connecticut Statewide Bacteria TMDL
 
Water Resources Connecticut has completed a Statewide Bacteria TMDL including a Core Document and 176 impaired
Water Quality segments that are listed on the 2010 Impaired Waters List (303(d)List).  The initial TMDL was approved by
EPA in September 2012. The segments are detailed in subregional watershed specific appendices to the
Water Quantity
Core Document. The included segments were listed for either recreational use or for direct shellfish
Watershed Management consumption. Most bacteria impairments from the 2010 CT 303(d) list that were not included in the initial
Wetlands posting of this document did not have sufficient or correct data to calculate TMDL reduction goals. Some
other segments were discovered to have attained water quality goals when calculations were completed on

existing data sets.

Water Main Page As future bacteria­impaired segments are discovered, and additional data is generated on remaining
Main Menu impairments, new documents will be appended to the existing Core Document and public noticed through
the current process for Connecticut DEEP. These watershed specific appendices will be added to this
webpage in Draft, and when approved, in Final form.

CT DEEP has posted FINAL documents for five additional appendices to the Core TMDL document.  These
documents cover 43 additional segments that are impaired for shellfishing based on fecal coliform data. 
These documents were approved by EPA on September 30, 2013 as FINAL TMDLs.  A fact sheet that details

2013 Additional Estuary Impairments Posting Fact Sheet
 
The public comment period for the 2013 posting of five additional appendices closed on September 9, 2013.

A public information session was held July 17, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. in the Phoenix Auditorium in DEEP
Headquarters at 79 Elm Street, Hartford, CT.  Accompanying Informational Presentation (PDF)
 
The documents were posted for public comment on the DEEP website and several newspapers on June 29,
and July 2, 2012.
