Professional Statement Practicum 3

The third phase practicum is the best time for me to practice my ability and credibility as
a teacher. After the first and second phase, I have gained lots of knowledge and experiences
that are beneficial for me as a future teacher. This is the time where I can practice and apply all
that I have learned from previous practicum. The third phase practicum starts on 1 st February
2015 until 30th April 2015. This three month period is going to decide whether I suit to be a
teacher or not. I have been assigned to Sekolah Kebangsaan Pasir Gudang 4, which situated
nearly 30km from the hostel. It is a totally different school for me and my partner as previously
we were assigned to different school. Thus, I have plan a few things that I hope to achieve by
the end of the practicum.
The first thing is to build a character of a teacher. During my previous practicum, I do not
manage to have the full characteristics of a teacher. I still lack of the enthusiasm to teach my
pupils. I was like coming into the class, open the textbook and gave exercises based on the
textbook, except for during observation. Therefore, this time around, I am determined to give out
all the best of me to teach them. I am going to apply what I have learnt from my lecturers during
lecture hours on my pupils. I also hope that I can be more hardworking to prepare interesting
and fun way for my pupils to learn English. As it is an alien language to the young learner, a
friendly and conducive learning environment should be in my classroom.
The next one is related to my involvement with school programs and community.
Previously, I rarely mingle around with the teachers in that school because my partner and I
were placed in different room from other teachers as the teachers room is pack already. It
makes it difficult for me to meet and chat with them as I myself have lots of tasks and works to
be done. Plus, I also did not actively involve with school programs. The school did not give tasks
or programs for my partner and I to handle. There was like a barrier between us and the school
community, most probably because I did not mingle with them much. Therefore, I am
determined to be friendlier after this, get to know all the teachers and hangout with them. I
learned that I cannot survived doing stuff alone without helps from the teachers.

Last but not least, I want to improve my English. As an English teacher, I am the best
example for my pupils. If I speak or pronounce words wrongly, my pupils will learn wrongly. I
remembered previously I did give my pupils wrong pronunciation of a word, before my mentor
corrects my mistakes. This should not happen from a teacher who is teaching English language
as the major subject. Therefore, I will improve myself and be well prepared for my lesson before
I enter the class. I must also able to speak English fluently and accurately. It is a shame if my
pupils can speak better than their teacher.
As for conclusion, I really hope that I can correct all my mistakes and flaws stated above.
Practicum is the best medium for me to learn from mistakes and improve my character, ability
as well as credibility as a teacher.
