2010 Big Bash supports CM Community Foundation

STANTON — The Central Montcalm
Community Foundation (CMCF) invites
the community to attend its Big Bash and
Mid-Winter Celebration. The event will
be held on Saturday, January 30, 2010
from 8:00 pm- Midnight at Clifford Lake
Inn, Stanton. Tickets are $20 per person
and the event is for adults 21 years and
older. This fundraiser event supports the
CMCF.
Your ticket gets you in to enjoy activi-
ties including live Dueling Pianos enter-
tainment, cash bar, gourmet appetizers,
silent/bucket auction, and 50/50 raffles.
Attendees will have the opportunity to get
to know the CMCF and the many ways it
supports the community.
Plus, come out early and enjoy Clif-
ford Lake Inn’s great dinner specials from
4:00-7:00 p.m. Twenty five percent (25%)
of your dinner check will be donated by
the CLI to support the programs of the
CMCF (show your event ticket for the spe-
cial offer).
“We have had a lot of fun with this
event,” said Connie McKeown, CMCF
president. “Everyone seems to have such
a wonderful time and I know, once again,
the evening is going to be a mid-winter
blast.”

Meet The Friends of the Timothy C.
Hauenstein Reynolds Township Library
On Oct. 26, 2005, five women met to begin the
process of organizing a group that would support
and benefit the Timothy C. Hauenstein Reynolds
Township Library. Shortly after this first meet-
ing, seventeen women met and voted to become
official Friends of the Library, a national organi-
zation whose purposes are as follows: encourage
volunteer opportunities, focus on the needs of the
library, sponsor activities in the area of art and
culture to broaden the community awareness of
available library sources, encourage the use of the
library, receive gifts and endowments and sup-
port the freedom to read.
Every year the Friends of the Library set up a
fund raising schedule which involves sponsoring
approximately twelve events yearly. These events
not only support our projects but also help to bring
our citizens together and make them more aware

State of Michigan financial assistance
for fiscal year 2011, as required under Act

DIVORCE CARE CLASSES OFFERED
Thanks to a one time grant from the Panhandle Association of Montcalm County, Still Waters
Counseling Ministry is offering help and hope to those who are experiencing a separation or
divorce by offering Divorce Care and Divorce Care 4 Kids.
The Panhandle Association grant paid for the materials to offer Divorce Care, which is a
13-week class that deals with specific issues including anger, depression, loneliness, new
relationships, financial survival and forgiveness.
Helplessness, frustration, abandonment, and loneliness are all words that could best
describe the feelings of someone going through a divorce.
Divorce Care for Adults begins Monday, February 1st at 7:30 PM.
Divorce Care 4 Kids begins Thursday, February 4th at 5:30 PM.
Both classes will be held at Still Waters Counseling Ministry at 218 N. Ensley in Howard City
and are free of charge.
The goal of Divorce Care and Divorce Care 4 Kids is to provide a safe atmosphere where
participants can share their heart while seeking God’s help/healing/hope during this difficult

There’s every good reason to call and request a housing counselor because once you call, foreclosure
proceedings stop until at least 90 days after the date the first Notice was mailed to the borrower. It’s a way to buy
time to plan your next steps. The fourth step is the meeting and ‘Work Out’, held at a convenient time and place for
the owner. Find out if you’re eligible for a mortgage modification. Try to get a new, workable, manageable mortgage.
Without boring you with the math, there is a test used which factors in the homeowner’s gross income information
and housing-related expenses. Be prepared to provide that information. Even if the owner is not eligible for an all
new deal, the 90-day period still has to elapse before foreclosure proceedings may commence. This additional time
for redemption could buy time to find a co-signer, or a new job, or a roommate.
Lastly, if the math doesn’t work for a new deal, the mortgage could still get modified and the house saved
until the market bounces back! Late fees could be eliminated. Some of the unpaid principal could be deferred until Since 1988

Someone asked me to comment about Cushing Syndrome (CS). This is a condition caused by the body’s
response to too much cortisol. The symptoms are central obesity (fat body with very thin arms and legs), “moon”
face, excess facial hair, “buffalo hump” and more. Beneath these unpleasant visible signs are often more serious
conditions like osteoporosis, cataracts, diabetes, and kidney problems. Includes 5 onion rings, 6-8 mushrooms,

emphysema, chronic back pain, lupus, Crohn’s disease, joint injections, and many other inflammatory disorders.

The unfortunate thing is that the CS symptoms and body changes caused by these cortisone medications do not
completely go away when the medication is discontinued. Worse yet, there are some patients who must have
these medications to survive. Now they have the original problem and the Cushing Syndrome also.

We would encourage people to avoid the use of cortisone pills, shots, or creams as much as possible. Some of
you have had the experience of the first cortisone shot. Every ache and pain goes away.
You feel fabulous, for a short time. Continued use, however, will eventually lead to CS
signs and symptoms. Even occasional use can have a negative impact on your health.
If you have something simple, like a bee sting or poison ivy, use things other than a
cortisone shot. Try Homeopathic Apis or Rhus Tox. instead. In most cases, an antihistamine

From Country to Cottage

For years, you favored
country décor, but lately
you’ve been leaning more
toward cottage style. You
like the touch of romance
the style brings to a room.
Slowly but surely, you
would like to change out
the décor in your home
from country to cottage,
but first, you need to
learn more about cottage
style.
Although similar to country
décor, cottage style is
lighter and airier. White
plays a predominant role,
with many furniture pieces painted or slip-covered in white.
Pale blues, greens, yellows, pinks and purples are also used
in cottage-style rooms.
Fabrics may be old or new. Quilts are a favorite for cottage-style
bedrooms, and window treatments are usually sheer to allow
light to flood in. Florals may be paired with stripes or solids,
and most rooms are layered in a variety of textiles, including
lace, ruffles and handmade needlework. Fabrics are unified
through color, with one to two colors running throughout each.
Furniture may run the gamut from brand-new overstuffed pieces
to distressed pieces. Cottage-style furniture often comes from
various places and is unified through paint and fabric. It is not
uncommon to find a mix of wicker, iron and wooden pieces in
rooms. Outdoor furniture may be brought in to lend a natural
touch.
Accessories are usually personal, with collections of family
photos, jewelry and other mementos splashed across the
rooms. Fresh flowers in old pitchers add warmth to tables, while
candles help create a romantic feel. Old plates, trays, teacups
and saucers add to the vintage look, while old birdhouses,
wheelbarrows and garden tools help bring the outdoors in.
Cottage style is a mix of the old and new, and the more layered
and cozier rooms feel, the better. Cottage style is all about
comfort.

You’ve been bitten by the decorating bug, and you’re ready to
redecorate the major living areas in your home. You don’t have a
lot of money to spare, so you’re going to have to cut costs where
you can. Not to worry. With some thought and careful shopping,
you can create beautiful rooms on a small budget.

your living room walls by wrapping a chair rail around the middle
and painting the upper half beige and the bottom half chocolate
brown. Dress up your plain side tables with some molding and light
blue paint, and set them against the freshly painted brown walls
for a pop of color.
Along with paint and trim, fabric is another inexpensive fix.
Don’t have any art? Stretch a piece of interesting fabric across
a canvas, staple it into place and hang it up for instant artwork.
Need new pillows? Make some out of some fabric and batting,
or sew slipcovers for the ones you already have. Drapes ragged
at the bottom? Cut off the damaged ends and sew on new bands
of fabric. When shopping for fabric for your rooms, start at the
remnant table. Chances are you will find exactly what you need
for all of your sewing projects at a fraction of the cost. Combine
various patterns, styles and textures for a unique look.
When it comes to accessories, think outside of the box and look
for bargains. Don’t be afraid to use the unexpected. Go ahead
and bring in that old garden gate and hang it on the wall. Take
advantage of sales, clearance aisles and bargain bins. Shop at
flea markets and thrift stores, and remember, you can redo almost
anything you find. See a chandelier you like that’s tarnished? Go
over it with some tarnish remover or give it a quick dash of spray
paint. Add some new shades, and voila, you’ve got a new light at
a low cost.
Decorating on a shoestring budget is not hard. It just takes some
clever thinking and some fine-tuned shopping. Good luck and
