TEST OF DATA QUALITY

To test data quality, writer will do several tests consisting of Validity test,

Reliability test, Mean, Median and Mode test, Normality test, Correlation test,
Coefficient of Determination test and Linear Regression test.

54

4.4.1. Validity Test

The writer has pre-test the validity of questionnaire by distributing to 20
random samples. Based on the responses to the questionnaire distributed for
variable X (Training program) and variable Y (Employees performance), the
writer then made a summary of the data in Attachment 2.
By conducting validity test, the writer will know better if the
questionnaires distributed to respondents will have valid answers/value. The
writer has conducted the validity test based on the data in attachment 2 for
variable X and Variable Y. The validity test will be shown in attachment 3 for
Variable X and attachment 4 for Variable Y. Below is the summary of validity test
conducted.

4.4.2. Reliability test

The writer has pre-test the reliability of questionnaire by distributing to 20
random samples. Based on the responses to the questionnaire distributed for
variable X (Training program) and variable Y (Employees performance), the
writer then made a summary of the data in Attachment 2.
By conducting reliability test, the writer will know better if the
questionnaires distributed to respondents will have reliable answers/value. The
writer has conducted the reliability test based on the data in attachment 2. The
reliability test data will be shown in attachment 5. The formula to test reliability is
as follows:

k

k 1

1 b

2t

Where: k = 18

56

The reliability result is 0.834. By using reliability scaling in chapter III, we

can see that it is good data reliability; therefore we can conclude that the
questionnaires answers are reliable.

4.4.3. Mean, Median and Mode

The questionnaire will be distributed to 46 respondents. The data will be
shown in attachment 6 for both Variable X (training program) questionnaires and
Variable Y (Employees performance) questionnaires.
For Variable X (training program), there are 8 questions, thus the value can
take on any value between 8 and 40 with the scale of:
8.0-12.0

= Very disagree

12.1-20.0

= Disagree

20.1-28.0

= Moderate

28.1-36.0

= Agree

36.1-40.0

the average answer is Agree.

So, it means that the Median of Variable X is 33 which mean that 33 can
represent the Variable X data and 33 (Agree) can be used as the data
representative for Variable X.
The Modes of Variable X is 35 since it has the most occurrence answer.

For Variable Y (employees performance), there are 10 questions, thus the

value can take on any value between 10 and 50 with the scale of:
10.0-15.0

= Very disagree

So, it means that the Median of Variable Y is 36.5 which mean that 36.5
can represent the Variable Y data and 36.5 (Agree) can be used as the data
representative for Variable Y.
The Modes of Variable Y is 43 since it has the most occurrence answer.

4.4.4. Normality Test

Using the data in attachment 6, we can calculate the data provided and find
whether the data is normally distributed. Then, we shall input the data into SPSS
to find the normality value using Kolmogorov-Smirnov formula.
From the SPSS result, shown in attachment 7, the normality of the test is
0.137. Based on Amirs book, if the result is greater than 0.05, then it will indicate
that the data is normally distributed.

4.4.5. Coefficient of Correlation Test

Using the data in attachment 6, we can calculate the data provided and find
the relationship of each data. Then, we shall use input the data into SPSS to find
the coefficient of correlation. The formula to find coefficient of correlation is as
follows:
R

n. x

n. xy x y
2

n. y

61

The writer will be able to find out the relationship between Variable X and
Variable Y using Coefficient of Correlation. This test is used to know the
relationship between Variable X (Training program) with Variable Y (Employees
performance) whether the relationship is positive, negative or no relationship at
all.
From the SPSS result, shown in attachment 7, the coefficient of correlation
test is 0.728. We shall refer to coefficient of correlation scale in chapter III to find
the meaning of this result. It shows that the relationship between Training
program (Variable X) and Employees performance (Variable Y) is Positive and
High relationship.

4.4.6. Coefficient of Determination

The writer has already test the relationship between variable X and
variable Y. Turns out, there is positive and high relationship between both
variables. Thus, the writer will do another test to know influence or relationship in
percentage. The writer will use coefficient of determination test to calculate the
influence by using formula as follows:
D

R 2 x 100%

From the SPSS result in attachment 7, the coefficient of determination

result is 52.93%. It is a strong relationship. This proves that Training program
influence Employees performance by 52.93%, while the other 47.07% is
influenced by other factors such as leadership, motivation, discipline, etc.

4.4.7. Linear Regression Test

After testing the influence of training program (Variable X) to employees
performance (Variable Y), we need to see the concrete influence by number and
how one variable affects the other variable significantly. The writer will use
Linear regression test to know the influence in number and figure. The formula
for linear regression test is:
Y=a+bX

y b x
n

n xy x y
n x x
2

From the SPSS, we found that the linear regression is:

a

11.869

0.807

Y = 11.869 + 0.807 X

Based on the result above, the linear regression is Y = 11.869 + 0.807 X,

which means if we increase variable X by certain point, the value of Variable Y
will increase as well. The writer made some calculations to see the increase
percentage as follows:
Example:
X = 1, then Y = 11.869 + 0.807 (1) 12.676
X = 2, then Y = 11.869 + 0.807 (2) 13.483
X = 3, then Y = 11.869 + 0.807 (3) 14.290

63

X = 4, then Y = 11.869 + 0.807 (4) 15.097

From the example, the writer can conclude that for every 1 point increase
in Variable X (Training program), Variable Y (Employees performance) will
increase by 0.807 point. The linear graphic can be seen below.

Figure 4.5 Linear Graphic between Variable X and Y

4.5.

TEST OF HYPOTHESIS
The writer will use Z-test to know the hypothesis is significant or not.

r
1
n 1

0.728
1
461

4.881

Zcount = 4.881, thus Zcount = -4.881

64

From the calculations above, we get the value of Z count is 4.881 and -Zcount
is -4.881.
Figure 4.6: Hypothesis diagram
Ho Accepted

Ha Accepted

Ha Accepted

-4.881

4.881

Thus Zcount is greater than Ztable = 1.96 with confidence level 95% and Z table
is greater than Zcount.

Based on the hypothesis test:

If Ztable < Zcount < Ztable, thus H0 is accepted and Ha is rejected. There
is no significance level of relationship between Training program and Employees
performance.
If

Zcount

>

Ztable,

thus H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. There is

significance level of relationship between Training program and Employees

performance.

65

If

Ztable

> -Zcount, thus H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. There is

significance level of relationship between Training program and Employees

Performance.

4.6.

RESULT AND ANALYSIS

Based on the data and calculation that is done by the writer, the writer got

the result and analysis:

a. The coefficient of correlation of Variable X and Y are 0.728. It means
variable X and Y has positive and high relationship or Training program
has positive and high relationship with employees performance. By
providing the right training program for employees, the employees
performance can be boosted.
b. The high relationship is shown by correlation of determination at
52.93%. It means that Training program influence employees
Performance by 52.93%. Thus, the remaining 47.07% is influence by
other factors such as leadership, motivation, discipline or other factors.
c. In linear regression test, Y = 11.869 + 0.807 X. It means that if we
increase variable X (Training program) by 1 point, variable Y
(employees performance) will also increase by 0.807 point.
d. The z-test is to prove our hypothesis. Z-test shows us that Z count is 4.881
and -4.881 Thus Zcount is greater than Ztable= 1.96. Therefore H0 is
rejected; it means there is a significance level of relationship between
Training program and Employees performance.
