career objective
With a career spanning over 25 years in Information Technology and Education, I am
looking to join a progressive and innovative organisation that can benefit from my
experience and diverse technical ability. A position targeted towards my strengths in
consulting, project management, strategy development, network design, online training
delivery, training and communication with a wide variety of stakeholders would be an
ideal match. My ability to apply my extensive knowledge and experience allows me to
be very versatile and achieve positive outcomes in a wide range of challenging

employment history
Technical Adviser – Vanuatu e-Government Project
April 2008 – My role involved leading the technical review of a proposed e-Government
network for the Vanuatu Government. The technical team reviewed over 500 pages of
technical specifications and provided a summary report of our findings to government.
IT/Business Course Implementation Adviser – Vanuatu TVET
January 2008 – March 2008: This role involves the establishment of short courses in
IT/Business at the Vanuatu Institute of Technology. Working closely with my Ni-Vanuatu
colleague to develop business plans, marketing plans, timetables, course schedules,
recruitment of trainers and development of course brochures and promotional materials.
IT/Business Adviser – Vanuatu TVET Sector Strengthening Project
March 2007 – December 2007: As IT/Business adviser my challenge was to establish a
new “Business and IT Centre” at the Vanuatu Institute of Technology. This role involved
the refurbishment of two building wings into new computer labs and classrooms,
equipping the labs, writing and accrediting courses, training teachers, mentoring the IT
Co-ordinator to run the Business & IT Centre and delivering a wide range of IT courses.
Funded by AusAID, this project not only exceeded it’s objectives but was completed on
time and on budget.
Technical Trainer – Hills Training Institute
December 2006 – March 2007: As Technical Trainer (Victoria) for the Hills group of
companies, I prepared training material and delivered training in CCTV products. I spent
a large proportion of my short time at Hills planning the new training centre in
Melbourne, gathering training resources, completing a training needs analysis and

adapting existing resources for delivery Australia wide. I was also trained on CCTV and
alarm/security systems. I reluctantly left Hills to take on a challenging project in Vanuatu.
Teacher – Information Technology, South West TAFE
January 2003 – Dec 2006: Full time teacher in the Advanced Diploma of Computer of
Computer Systems Engineering, South West Institute of TAFE, Victoria. Subjects taught
include Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, CompTIA A+, Fundamentals of UNIX,
Fundamentals of Wireless Networks, Project Management, Communications and Help
Desk. I wrote grant submissions in 2004 and 2005 which were successful in gaining over
$90,000 of equipment grants for our student labs. I also gained accreditation for the
Institute as a Prometric test centre. In 2005 I implemented an Online Learning System
(Moodle) that is now used extensively by teachers in the department.
IT Adviser – Vanuatu Institute of Technology, AusAID
I spent 4½ months in Vanuatu during 2004, designing and implementing a campus wide
Local Area Network and delivering a number of training courses (MS Office, Internet,
Local Area Networks, Network+, Server 2003, Smoothwall firewall). I assisted the
Institute to become accredited as an International Computer Drivers Licence training
centre. I returned for further consultancies in 2005 and later in 2006 to provide
additional technical support and training to the IT staff and teachers at the Institute.
Technical Consultant
2002–2006 I operated an Information Technology consulting business (South West
Technology) providing installation and support of hardware, networks, firewalls,
application software, Internet access, security, Project Management and Strategic
Planning. (Part time role)
Technical Consultant
2002-2004 Quicknowledge Corporation, East Hawthorn.
Performed onsite installation of personal computers, printers, Internet access and various
peripherals on a contract basis. Installed over 150 PCs. (Part time role)
Long Service leave/Full Time Student
1999-2001 Travelled around Australia on long service leave before returning to my
home town and completing a Certificate IV in Network Management. I also spent a
significant amount of time installing and configuring Linux servers, providing broadband,
web servers, databases and firewalls.
Principal Policy Adviser
During 1998, I completed a three month secondment to the Northern Territory
Department of Communications and Advanced Technology. Provided policy advice to the
minister, other government departments, semi government agencies and the private
sector on communications and advanced technology issues.

Managed the Information Services unit consisting of 20 staff in Library Services,
Information Systems, Computer Training, Records Management and Technical
Publications. Managed a budget of $1 million for staff and service delivery costs.
Achieved significant financial savings by implementing an IP network across the agency
and moving computing services from an antiquated mainframe environment to an
enhanced LAN environment.
Communications Consultant
1993-95 NCOM Services, Darwin.
Provided specialist communications advice to government agencies and technical support
for a range of projects including a Keno gaming system, GIS integration project,
Information Security consultancy, designed a campus wide integrated voice and data
cabling system, and migration of the Transport and Works Department across to the
state wide CICSO powered network. I was also involved in the design and
implementation of the Territory wide integrated voice and data network to 15,000
employees.
Technical Analyst
1992-93 SMART Project, TAFE, Darwin, NT.
Implemented the technical phase of the SMART pilot project (TAFE Student
Administration), including equipment procurement, database administration and
installation. Implemented a benchmark to measure database application performance
on a UNIX platform and achieved a free vendor hardware upgrade as a result.
Communications Consultant
In 1991-92 I was seconded to the Pacific School Games - a sporting event conducted by
the Department of Education, for a total of five months. I established the results centre
and implemented a computerised results system.
Assistant Director
1992 Information Systems, NT Department of Education.
Managed the Information Systems Section, consisting of eighteen staff in the
Operations, Development and Network units. Responsible for purchasing and planning
the installation of hardware and software for 140 sites across the Northern Territory.
Communications Consultant
In 1990-91 I was contracted to the Arafura Sports Festival. My role was to develop the
software to run the event and establish the results centre, arrange communication
facilities, assist with the production of promotional material and establish the media
centre.
IT Operations Manager
1988-92 Information Systems, NT Department of Education.
Managed the functions of the operations unit. Ensured system availability and
functionality was maintained at its maximum during working hours. In 1990 the
department won a gold award for its state wide computer system at the national
Government Technology Awards event held in Canberra.

Managed the installation of office automation products in regional and central office
sites (approx 45 sites) across the Northern Territory. Supervised the development team
