Notes from initial meeting

Potential Class Facilitation Agenda

I. Introduction – Introduce Group members. Kate Wood – PreMed, John


Cochran – Pre PT, Nicole Morearty – Health Sciences, Stephanie Licquia, Ayla
Olkszost and Beth Haley, State professor’s objective for us leading the group.
Review the agenda with class. Ask if anyone has any questions. Introduce
speaker for PB&J exercise. (5 Min)
II. PB& J Demo – Open demo by briefly restating summary of exercise and then
moving right into the exercise. (15Min)
III. Group Break Outs – Format: (30 Min)
• 6 Learning Groups
• Students guided to seats as they are arriving
• Tables separated and set in half circle 3-4 students per table
• Instructors will rotate to a new table every 5 min
• Professor Schirmer to monitor time and give 30 sec warning and
rotation notice.
• Each instructor will open with a brief explanation in their group
of what their topic, the will complete their exercise/
demonstration, following their demonstration the instructor will
pose an open ended question and take any questions or
comments, last 30 seconds and throughout the meeting student
should be capturing 1-2 facts they gained from the instructor
about technical writing
I. Group Topics – By group number
1. What is Tech Writing? – Kate Wood will be doing a quick
exercise where individuals write their definition of Technical
writing and then compare that with the actual definition of
technical writing. Followed by a quick Q&A and introduction to
the next instructor.
2. Who Provides Technical Writing – John Cochran, Explain who
creates Technical documents and the different ways in which
they are delivered. Visuals of different sources provided. Quick
Q&A and introduction to next instructor.
3. Who are the Users of Technical documents – Nicole Morearty,
Explain to her groups who are the various users of technical
documents by groups and give examples of what each group
may use. Followed by a quick Q&A and introduction to the next
instructor.
4. Visual Examples of Technical Document – Stephanie Licquia,
show students different examples of tech. writing like medical,
engineering, etc, followed by quick Q&A and introduction to the
next instructor.
5. How Technical Documents are used – Ayla Olkszost, will walk
her group through how technological documents are used in
everyday life, followed by a quick Q&A and introduction to the
next instructor.
6. Demonstrating the use of Technological Writing – Beth Haley,
show students how to work through a simple set of Knot tying
instructions using a technological document., Followed by a
quick Q&A and introduction to the next instructor
I. Facilitation Wrap-up – All instructors stand together at front of class. JC
closes meeting following this format: (5 Min)
• Quick class Q&A, ask if workshop was educational and enjoyable
• Discuss assignment – Posterous post due Monday following
facilitation
• Thank Class for participation and turn class back to professor
