This work procedure serves as the guideline in the execution of the painting and
coating activities to be able to attain the quality of work required for the specified
contract project.

Weather Conditions
During Surface preparation and application of paint the weather conditions shall be as
follows:

The substrate temperature should above than 10 C or not more than the
temperature limit given in the applicable Saudi Aramco Data Sheet.
Humidity should less than 85%
Paint shall not be applied if one or more of the adverse weather conditions exist
such as:

1. Wind is strong enough to blow sand, salt spray, or other foreign matter
onto the surface being painted.
2. Wind is strong enough to cause by dry spray or disturb the spray
pattern when application is by spray gun.
5.4
Surface Preparation
5.4.1 Prior to painting, all surfaces shall be thoroughly cleaned of any material that
may result in premature failure of the paint coating. For general surface
preparation procedure and requirements, the SAES-H-100 Saudi Aramco Surface
Preparation Specifications, shall be used as reference.
5.4.2 Prior to using compressed air for the surface preparation, the quality of the air
downstream of the separator shall be tested by blowing the air into clean white
blotter for two minutes to check for any contamination, oil or moisture. The test
also shall be made after any interruption of the air compressor operations.
The air shall be used only if the blotter test indicates no visible contamination, oil
or moisture.
5.4.3 If contaminants are evident, the equipment deficiencies shall be corrected and
the air stream shall be restored. Separator shall be bled continuously.

5.4.4 Surfaces, which are determined to have been blasted with contaminated air,
must be re-blasted with clean air and abrasive.
5.5
Paint Application
5.5.1 Oil, grease. Soil dust or foreign matter deposited on the surface after surface
preparation has been completed shall be removed prior to painting. If rusting
occurs after completion of surface preparation, the surface shall be re-cleaned in
accordance with SAES-H-100.
5.5.2 Paint shall be applied by one, or a combination, of the following methods.

Inspection
All inspection shall be carried out in accordance to specific Saudi Aramco Specification.
The QC Inspector shall verify that the paint shall be applied when:

1. The Structure is not less than 10C and not more than 60C
2. The surface is free from grease oil and rust. Adverse weather conditions do not
exist. No strong winds that may cause dry spray or a poor spray pattern.
Note:
Recoating shall not be carried out until the earlier coat has completely cured on
completion of the application the dry film thickness will be checked.
The finished coat shall be free of runs, sags, drips, dry sprayer foreign matter and
shall be in accordance with paragraph 5.1.6 of SAES-H-100
Areas requiring repairs shall be repaired as per paragraphs 8.3 and 8.4 of SAES H100.
The maximum brush size for stripe coating is 125mm
5.8
Safety
5.8.1 Minimum safety requirements applicable to shop and field painting shall be as
given in SAES-H-102.
5.8.2 Respirable air-fedhoods shall be worn while blasting or spray painting is in
progress.
5.8.3 Safety shoes and coveralls shall always be worn and safety hats shall be worn as
required by proponent organizations.
5.8.4 All blasting and coating equipment and associated attachments shall be
adequately earthed to avoid electrostatic discharges.
5.8.5 Blasting shall be equipped with a remote control shut-off dead man.
5.8.6 The blast nozzles shall be electrically connected to an external ground in order to
prevent static electrical discharges or shocks to operating personnel.
5.8.7 Respirable air-fed abrasive blasting hoods and OSHA approved in-line respirable
air filters shall be used at all times by abrasive blasting personnel.
5.8.8 Hearing protection shall be worn where abrasive blasting is in progress.
5.8.9 Airless spray guns shall never be pointed at anyone or at any part of the body.
5.8.10Leather gloves shall be worn by the operator whenever the airless spray gun is in
use.

The following necessary checklist and inspection forms to document the compliance of
the work activities to the Project Quality Plan and other project requirements are to be
filed per SAEP-122 and to be submitted to Saudi Aramco at the close of the project.

Responsibilities
The following list comprises of the minimum responsibilities for each designated

The Project manager is in overall charge of the work production units on this
project. He monitors compliance by all personnel and all parties governing
procedure, standards and specifications, the Project Quality Manual, the QC

Inspection Plan IFC Drawing Safety Plan, relevant clients specs and Industry
Codes as per the project requirements. He communicates with other
