ACADEMIC PROJECT
PhD New Techniques to Enhance the Burn Rate of an Aluminized Composite Solid
Propellant
This Study explores two new techniques to enhance the burn rate of a composite solid
propellant. Experiments with activated charcoal as a burn rate modifier and with micron sized
aluminum flakes which have higher surface area (named as pyral), instead of micron sized
spherical aluminum particles are carried out. It is perceived that these two can be promising
methods to enhance the burn rates of a composite solid propellant. In addition to this, a study
has also been done to examine the effect of moisture content present in the activated charcoal
on the burn rate. Along with this, effect of the dry activated charcoal on the composite solid
propellant is also studied.

M. Tech Activated Charcoal as a Burn Rate enhancer in composite Solid Propellant

Preliminary experiments have been carried out to examine the effect of activated charcoal
on the burn rate of aluminized composite solid propellants. Along with this, effect of oxidizer
particle size (Ammonium Per-chlorate) along with other catalyst has been studied. Effect of
ambient temperature on the burn rate of solid propellant is also examined.
