Disassembly/Reassembly
Description
This section demonstrates disassembly procedures for all field
replaceable units (FRUs) and then addresses the specific issues
relevant to reassembly of the CLARiiON CX600 xPE and DAE.
Objectives
The following are the objectives for this exercise:
Disassemble a CLARiiON CX600 xPE and DAE to the FRU level.
Recognize the FRUs for a CLARiiON CX600 xPE and DAE and identify
FRU replacement dependencies.
Completely reassemble a CLARiiON CX600 xPE and DAE to the point
of ready to power up.
Tools/Aids/Materials
The following tools/aids/materials are required to disassemble and reassemble Fibre Channel Disk Enclosures.

Make sure the switch on the power supply is in the OFF position, and wait five seconds before
disconnecting the power cable.
3.
CAUTION: The orientation of the two power supplies is different. Pay close attention when
removing a power supply to make sure that you orient it correctly when replacing it.
Release the retaining clip from the power cord and disconnect the cord from the power supply.
4.
Loosen the thumbscrew securing the power supply to the chassis. Notice the securing
mechanism is a latch (see arrow below) and the screw only need be turned about 1 turn to free
the power supply. The icons beside the screw dictate the direction to turn the screw.

Disconnect all cables from the back of the SP, including the Fibre Channel, terminal, and SPS
cables.
2.
CAUTION: The orientation of the two Storage Processors is different. Pay close attention when
removing a Storage Processor to make sure that you orient it correctly when replacing it.
Loosen the two captive thumbscrews that secure the SP to the chassis. This is the same latch
type mechanism as on the power supplies.

CAUTION: The storage processor fan pack should be replaced within two minutes if the
enclosure is powered on and operational or the storage processors will overheat and force a
thermal shutdown.
Press inward on the black plastic locking tabs, and use the handles to pull the SP fan pack out of
the enclosure.

Make sure the power switch on the SPS is in the off position. Disconnect all of the cables from
the SPS, including the RJ-11 serial cable and all power cables. Remove the four screws from
each mounting plate on the back of the SPS and remove the mounting plates.
2.
Pull forward to release the front bezel from the SPS rack tray.

CAUTION: A disk module should not be removed while power is applied unless its amber Check
LED is illuminated. When removing multiple disk modules, wait several seconds between each
removal and verify that the active LEDs of the remaining modules are flickering.
CAUTION: When removing multiple disk modules, make sure to insert the modules into their
original slots in the enclosure. If the disk module is a member of a bound LUN, data on that LUN
may be inaccessible if the drive is replaced in a different slot.
Press the release latch on the drive carrier, and lift the latch up to unlock the carrier from the
chassis.
