Personal Profile
I am a New Zealand lawyer presently returning from Canada where I have spent the last year on
a working holiday. I have worked for more than 3 years in litigation practices, including civil, family
and criminal litigation together with general employment and commercial work. I have most
recently been employed as a Privacy and Official Information Editor for the Ministry of Social
Development.
Prior to obtaining my practicing certificate, I studied for a law degree at the University of Otago and the
University of Waikato, completing my course at the beginning of November 2009 (graduating formally in
May 2010.)
I have achieved to a high level in practical aspects of law and represented the University of Waikato in the
Australian Law Students Association mooting competition in Brisbane during 2009.

Professional Experience
Privacy and Official Information Editor October 2013 April 2014
Ministry of Social Development, Wellington, New Zealand
In my most recent role, I responded to requests for information made pursuant to the New Zealand
Privacy Act and Official Information Act. I then applied the legislation to requested documents ensuring
compliance with the relevant Acts. A key component of the role was to develop and manage
relationships across the Ministry and with key government stakeholders, including working with senior
Ministry staff, often one-on-one, as well as drafting appropriate and strategically sound advice and draft
responses to requests and correspondence.
As part of the Ministrys expansion of the Privacy and Official Information team, I was further involved in
the training of twenty new staff in the same roles, contributing to their understanding of Ministry policies
and of the relevant Acts they work with.

I continued my family law litigation practice covering such areas as domestic violence, day-to-day care
and contact, adoption, paternity, Protection of Personal and Property Rights Act applications, and Child
Youth and Family applications.
I conducted criminal litigation including acting as lead counsel in a defended hearing in December
2012, preparing discharge without conviction applications and completed the necessary duty solicitor
course examinations.
I gave advice on a range of other matters including employment law and entertainment contracts.

My Interests
I am a keen singer. I have been a member of the Wellington Youth Choir and previously I was a member of
the New Zealand National Youth Choir for three years. I have also been a backstage chorus member for
the New Zealand Opera and been a member of WOVEN Young Vocal Collective, an a cappella singing
group for Hamilton youth.
I have had local recognition as the 2007 Waikato Young Singer of the Year, was a recipient of an Arts
Waikato Scholarship in 2008, and continue to study music in my spare time. In 2009 I was awarded a
University of Waikato Blue in recognition of outstanding performance in the creative and performing arts
In the winter, I enjoy snowboarding and participate year-round in general fitness, completing a halfmarathon in 2012. I enjoy an outdoors lifestyle and hike on the weekends.
