Fifth Edition of CBSE Student Global Aptitude Index (SGAI) goes Online
Subsequent to the communication of the Chairman CBSE (circular no: CBSE/
PRO/ SGAI/ 2014) dated 19th September 2014, it is a pleasure to announce yet
another improvised version of the SGAI Fifth edition, which will, for the first time
be conducted online (computer based) in affiliated schools, in India and abroad.
The registered schools should visit www.cbse.nic.in and click Public Portal to
reach ONLINE CBSE SGAI 2014. The schedule for ONLINE CBSE SGAI 2014 is as
follows;
8th December to 20th December 2014 The online SGAI assessment will
be conducted for all schools under all Regions.
OFFLINE
SGAI
ONLY
FOR
SCHOOLS
NOT
HAVING
A
STABLE/UNRELIABLE INTERNET CONNECTION .It may be noted that
the offline assessment will not be a paper pencil assessment. The
students will have to attempt a computer based assessment.
The offline program will also be available from 8th December upto 20th
December 2014 but the schools will be required to intimate the board
by 30th November 2014 positively
In the last 4 years of having conducted the SGAI, the Board has constantly strived
to improve the assessments and delivery format in ensuring its goal of helping
students in their subject choices for Class XI through a more scientific and selfexploratory manner. The Board has devised the SGAI to be an optional program
and the success of this program is evidenced in the growth of number of students
opting for the same every year. With over 6 lakh students having taken the SGAI
assessment, this years registrations also saw a handsome increase of over 10%
compared to the previous year.
The SGAI has been specifically designed based on the Boards deep understanding
of the needs of the students and of the schools, and unlike other Aptitude tests; the
SGAI provides suggestive direction to students in their subject choices in class XI.
The SGAI, by taking into account the Aptitude and the Interests of the students,
allows a multi-dimensional analysis in helping make the relevant subject choices
rather than basing it purely on marks and other extraneous factors. The schools
could, in addition to their own policies and formats, use the SGAI results as
another input mechanism in helping the students and also understanding them
better.
Keeping abreast with the technology and the need to provide hassle free guidance
to students, this online edition will allow students to instantly access their SGAI
reports after completing the assessments.
The online platform allows schools and students not only instant and easy access
to reports and information but also allows easy communication among all the
stakeholders. Further, use and analysis of student data for reporting is made
easier.
For the smooth roll out of the SGAIs fifth edition, the schools are required to
make the following arrangements:
1. To appoint a SGAI School Coordinator preferably a counsellor or a senior
teacher or those suitably chosen by the School head. This coordinator would
act as an interface between the Board and the students in smooth
conducting of the assessment and address any process/system
clarifications.
2. The school coordinators account would be automatically created using the
school id/principal id available with the CBSE and the steps to activate
and use this account would be communicated to the said ids.
3. The names and CBSE registration numbers of those students who have
opted for the SGAI (as already sent to the board by the schools) would be
used to create individual students accounts
4. Once the school coordinator logs in using his school id, he/she would see
the list of the names and the registration numbers of the students
mentioned in point 3.
5. Against each such student, the school coordinator would input following
details as part of the registration. Although the details below are not
mandatory, it is important for reasons specified below:
a. Students marks in the specified format please see Marks of the
student section below
b. Students email id (or such id as is used by the school to
communicate to the student/parent) - Each student, registered for the
SGAI will be required to have his/her own unique email address (if
already not available, create a free account). A common school email
address would not suffice as each individual student will receive
important communication through his/her email id
c. Students/guardians mobile number; for communication about the
reports. The School coordinator will make sure that the email
addresses are correct and do not have any errors, the email addresses
become critical for communication as well as despatch of the reports
for easy downloads
6. Post registration, and based on the schedule announced by the Board, the
schools will conduct the online assessment for the students within the
school premises.
7. For this purpose, the school coordinator would have to make sure that each
student inputs the correct CBSE registration number along with his chosen
password to begin the assessment.
8. During the period of the assessments, an online chat facility at
help.sgai@gmail.com and doubt clarification facility through telephone
will be available to the school coordinators for making sure that
For any kind of facilitation and query the board will provide email
support/online chat and telephonic access to school coordinators during
the entire period.
For any queries regarding online SGAI, a help centre will be functional for
the school coordinators from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm from Monday to
Saturday starting from the date of this circular.
During the said period, the school Coordinators can contact: 08033013095.
School coordinators can also access help.sgai@gmail.com for online
support and chat.
However for queries during the period of actual assessments, the telephone
support timings from December 8th upto 20th December 2014, will be from
8:30 am 4:30 pm, Monday Saturday.
The school coordinator with the help of sufficient IT support can avail the
offline SGAI facility.
For offline conduct of SGAI 2014, the schools will be provided downloadable
software (a very light application), which can be installed on one computer.
Internet connection is needed for such a download, however only briefly and
it is not required once downloaded. The students can access the assessment
through Local Area Network (LAN) without the dependence of internet.
After the completion of the SGAI 2014 assessment using the downloaded
software, the school coordinator, with the help of the IT support, will upload
the batch file back to a specified URL detailed instructions for the Offline
user and minimum requirements would be made available shortly in the
CBSE website.
Unlike schools using the online program, the schools using the offline
program will not be able access the reports instantly and will have to wait a
minimum of 48 hours from the time of school coordinator uploading the final
completed file.
Further, for those availing the offline facility, the online chat facility will not
be available and clarifications could be sought only through the telephonic
route.
Detailed instructions on how to go about the Offline method would be
communicated only to those schools opting for the same, well before the
assessment dates.
For further details CBSE SGAI in house support cell can also be contacted at
28th November to 6th December 2014
