collages. The week will include a choice of indoor and
outdoor activities, two field trips for 1st 5th graders, daily
mid-morning snack, and the exciting and fun-filled Annual
Water Carnival. Please note that enrollment in the ASEP Early
Summer Program is open to current TPS students only.

Fiber Arts
JUNE 1519
For campers currently in grades 38
Journey into the colorful and creative world of Fiber
Arts! Campers will spend the week exploring ways to work
with wool, fabric, and yarn, including dying our own yarn
(using Kool Aid!), sewing, and needle felting, which is a
traditional method of sculpting and painting with wool.
Participants will learn to use a sewing machine and will
have the opportunity to sew a patchwork pillow, make a
tote bag, and cut pattern pieces to sew a simple garment
to wear! No knitting or sewing skills needed. Well learn
and explore together!

Fishing & Bridge Design

JUNE 1519

For campers currently in grades 38

For campers currently in grades 38

Campers will be immersed in the art and craft of digital

photography and introduced to the tools necessary to capture
great images and refine them through digital imaging. No
photography experience necessary! Challenge your creativity
both in the classroom and in the field. Complete a series
of digital photography challenges, and then use the photo
editing tools in Adobe Photoshop to add layers of digital
artistry to your photos. We will spend time taking photographs
on neighborhood walks during the week, while exploring
what makes a good photograph and the fundamentals of
composition and lighting. Campers will learn the basics
of Photoshop to refine images and will experiment with
techniques such as cropping, filters, layers, and brushes.

For many of us, we see and drink the Schuylkill River

every day (40% of our drinking water comes from it), yet we
rarely interact directly with it. We will spend our mornings
fishing along the Schuylkill River and exploring the basics
of casting, baiting, and reeling. A range of bait will also be
tested, and data will be recorded daily to keep track of our
findings. In the afternoon, we will explore the structures
that allow us to stand over this and other rivers: bridges.
The engineering and design of bridges has evolved over the
centuries, yet some basic principles remain. Campers will
design and create their own bridges using various materials.
By the end of the week, each participant will have created a
scale model of a bridge that is not only functional, but also
has a style straight out of his or her imagination!

Firekeepers: Advanced Wilderness

Skills Camp
WED., JUNE 24SUN., JUNE 28
For campers currently in grades 58

Fishing & Dissection

JUNE 29JULY 3
For campers currently in grades 38
Come spend your mornings catch-and-release fishing
on the Schuylkill River! Under the expert direction of our own
7th-grade teacher and angler, Virginia Friedman, campers will
spend half the day along the river and the other half indoors
doing related activities, including dissection. Learn about
the anatomy of three major fish groups (jawless, bony, and
cartilaginous) as we closely examine catfish, skate, perch,
lamprey, and others. Campers will collect and graph data
from daily catches and learn about the proper care and
use of a fishing rod. No prior fishing experience or fishing
equipment necessary.

Foxwalkers: Wilderness Skills Camp

MON., JUNE 22FRI., JUNE 26
For campers currently in grades 58
Participants in the Foxwalkers Wilderness Skills Camp will
learn the ways of the wild through tracking games, navigation
activities, and wild plant hikes. Come learn outdoor skills like
purifying water, building shelters, and making fire. Test these
skills in water wars, a silent night hike, and the ultimate stalking
experience of the Lantern Game. Well begin the week with
two days at TPS as we prepare for our time in the woods. On
Wednesday, campers will meet at TPS and then head to Rickets
Glen in the Poconos for three days and two nights of camping.
Campers will be tent-camping but do not need to have a
tent to participate. Come join us for an unforgettable week of
outdoor fun!

Are you ready to take the outdoor skills you learned as

a Foxwalker to a whole new level? Join us for the Firekeepers
Advanced Wilderness Camp for five days and four nights in the
beautiful Rickets Glen woods! We will build advanced shelters,
which you have the option to sleep in. Develop a keener sense
of the plant and animal life with wild edible collections and live
animal tracking. Advanced skills in fire-making, water locating,
whittling, and bow making will also be practiced. If youve ever
day-dreamed about what it would be like to live off the grid, to
survive an apocalypse, to escape zombies, or to participate in
The Hunger Games, then come sharpen your survival skills and
have a blast with us at Firekeepers! Completion of Foxwalkers
Wilderness Skills Camp (this summer or in a previous one) is a
prerequisite for Firekeepers.

Foxwalkers & Firekeepers:

The 7-Day Option

For campers currently in grades 58
Attention all Foxwalkers (first timers) who wish to go all
the way to becoming a Firekeeper (advanced skills) in one
summer! Come join us for the 7-day option! After you have
completed Foxwalkers Camp, stay on at Rickets Glen for two
additional nights doing advanced skills with the Firekeepers

multiplying your creations will be yours as we use styrofoam,
metal, cardboard, and other materials to produce and replicate
exciting images. Campers will explore stamps, relief printing,

experimental realm of mixed media by incorporating image
transfers, painting, and sculpture.

This summer, our junior scientists will plunge into
wonder-filled, mind-bending experiments! Campers will
embark on a week-long scientific adventure into the
mysterious worlds of chemistry, physics, biology, geology,
and even forensics. Create an erupting geyser, write secret
messages with invisible ink, make a fruit battery, and learn
about centripetal force while somehow staying dry as you

more! Campers will work individually and collaboratively to
plan, measure, cut, build, and decorate their projects using basic
hand tools. Safety and proper use of protective eyewear will be
stressed at all times as campers work with saws, drills, chisels,
hammers, and screwdrivers. Woodworking experience is not
required; only a desire to learn new skills and have fun!

For campers currently in grades 48

Through games, drills, instruction, and sparring, boys and
girls will learn the art and craft of wrestling. Participants will
practice using their bodies creatively and efficiently. By tackling
common challenges and working hard together, campers
