1.0

CEMENT, SAND AND WATER


Cement, sand and water shall be as described in Concretor.

2.0

FLAT ROOFS
Cement and sand screeds to flat roofs are to be in the mixed proportions as
described. Where the screeds are waterproofed the waterproofing agents are to be
of approved manufacture, and mixed strictly in accordance with the manufacturers
instructions.
Screeded flat roofs are to remain without traffic for two days after laying and to be
immediately protected by laying clean gunny bags over the area. On no account shall
sand be spread on.
The thickness, gradients and falls shall be as specified and the Contractor is to
execute the work accordingly.

3.0

METAL ROOFING SHEET


Roof coverings shall be Sanko 0.48mm BST high tensile colourbond/colorbaked
finish, complete with all necessary standard capping, etc. to match and all laid strictly
in accordance to the manufacturers instructions and recommendations.
The sheets shall be laid over the roof insulation in one whole length from ridge to the
eaves with the recommended side lap and each sheet shall be fixed to the roof
framing all strictly in accordance to the manufacturers instructions.
Turnips and turndowns to the metal roofing sheets shall be done with the appropriate
tools all in accordance with the manufacturers instructions. All exposed and
openings of the deck ribs shall be fitted with end stops.
The rates for roofing sheets shall include for all battens of the recommended size
and complete fixing accessories for a complete roof covering system.

4.0

ALUMINIUM FOIL INSULATION


Aluminium foil insulation shall be Sisalation or other equal and approved single
sided aluminium foil insulation fixed over timber framing/steelworks all in accordance
with the manufacturers instructions and recommendations.

5.0

RAINWATER DOWNPIPE
Rainwater downpipe shall be approved UPVC downpipe, unless stated otherwise, all
installed in accordance to the manufacturers specification and instructions.

6.0

GALVANISED IRON FLASHING


The galvanized iron flashings shall be of the gauge indicated or described and shall
comply with BS 3083.
Fixing of the flashings shall be, unless otherwise indicated on the drawings, as
recommended by the roofing manufacturers.

7.0

PROPRIETARY WATERPROOFING SYSTEM


Waterproofing system to concrete flat roof and gutter slab shall be as specified on
the drawings; all laid in strict accordance with the manufacturers instructions and
specifications.
The waterproofing specialist firm shall provide a ten (10) years guarantee to the
Employer from the Date of Practical Completion against all leakages resulting from
defects in materials and/or poor workmanship. All expenses incurred by such
rectification work shall be carried out and borne by the waterproofing specialist firm.
The areas to receive waterproofing shall be structurally sound, free of voids,
honeycombs, holes and protrusions. All surfaces to be waterproofed must be clean
and free from dust and dirt, loose particles, laitance, oils, curing agents, etc.
On completion of the roof waterproofing system, clean down the roof surfaces of all
debris, loose nails, mortar droppings, clean out gutters and outlets and leave the
whole roofing and rainwater disposal system clean and watertight to the complete
satisfaction of the Engineer/S.O.
Rates for waterproofing system shall include freight charges, carriage, custom duties,
unloading, storage, hoisting and laying in the required location, wastage, making
good or repaired surfaces with the specified product, rounded edges, arises, angle
fillet or coving, forming grooves, working into channel, formation of gutters and
scupper drains, joints pointed, additional coat around floor trap and downpipes and
the like.
