Summary
The SAP Job Progress Monitor mobile app facilitates the monitoring of your business processes and the
progress of your job chains in real time anywhere and anytime. It allows business process owners to monitor
job chains and view job details right from their device. The document describes all the steps necessary to
setup a Job Progress Monitor.

SAP Job Progress Monitor


You want to monitor the status and progress of batch processing centrally and in real-time and for critical
jobs you need to know, for a running job when it will finish. SAP Job Progress Monitor mobile application has
the following features:

Ensure business continuity for critical jobs and job chains by providing real time information
Group multiple job chains together and monitor overall group progress and the current activity
distribution (percentage of active, scheduled, completed, and canceled jobs); drill down to job details
Job Chain status information as well as runtimes and estimated and actual end times of job chains
can be accessed by mobile applications anywhere and anytime
Snapshots of job chain progress can be send by e-mail

Prerequisites
SAP recommends the implementation of SAP Note1932546 - SAP Job Progress Monitor - Advanced
Corrections.
System requirements:

SAP Solution Manager 7.1 SP 10 or higher


SMSE-certified Job Scheduler like SAP CPS by Redwood
SUP 2.2 (Optional)
Afaria 6.6 (Optional)
iPhone/iPad (iOS 6.0 and higher);
Android Phone and tablet (4.0 and higher)

Schedule Background Jobs for Data Collection


This activity has to be executed once to schedule the data preparation, collection and processing jobs.
Open the Job Management Work Center and select Administration. Select Schedule/Monitor data processing
jobs in the Job Progress Monitor Configuration section.

The application the schedule and monitor the job of the Job Progress Monitor infrastructure will be started.
Just click onto Schedule once to schedule all required jobs.
To check the successful scheduling of the jobs and to monitor the execution of the jobs select any (active)
job in the configuration table and check the content of the Job Status table below.

Job Progress Monitor Configuration


To configure a new Job Progress Monitor open the Job Management Work Center and select Administration.
Select Define a new Progress Monitor for an external Job Chain in the Job Progress Monitor Configuration
section.

The application to define a new Progress Monitor will be started.


First enter the connection parameters, thats destination and isolation group, to the external SMSE job
scheduler.
Then use the search help to search for the job chain for which the Job Progress Monitor should be defined.
After the job chain data has been loaded into the application enter a name for the Job Progress Monitor and
mark the steps and/or jobs that are part of the monitor. Make sure that your configuration contains a start

element, which must be the element with the lowest order number, and an end element, which must be the
element with the highest order number.
It is possible to select the steps of a job chain which can be used to monitor a set of parallel jobs as a single
and aggregated element.

to monitor a set of parallel jobs as a whole.

Target values can be specified for the Job Progress Monitor itself or any element of the monitor. Target
values can be specified for the runtime and/or the end time of the selected part of the Job Chain. The
planned start time can be entered for your information only.

Finally activate the Job Progress Monitor configuration by selecting Activate Monitoring.

To make the data accessible to users assign the Job Progress Monitor to a Monitoring Group and to
navigate to this application select Assign to Group.

Optional: Calculation of average runtime and contribution to total runtime.


Select Import and the Structure and Runtime to import the job chain structure together with runtime data for
several job chain instances.

After a while the application will update the JPM configuration data with average runtime in seconds and
runtime contribution in percent for each element of the job chain.

How to change the configuration of a Job Progress Monitor


To change the configuration of a Job Progress Monitor open the Job Management Work Center and select
Administration. Select Edit an existing Progress Monitor for an external Job Chain in the Job Progress
Monitor Configuration section.

Creation of Monitoring Groups and Allocation of Users and JPM Monitors


Select Create to create a new Monitoring Group. Just enter a name and optionally a description.
It is important to assign SAP users to a group because otherwise the data will not be accessible externally.
Only assigned SAP users can access the Group and the assigned Job Progress Monitors.

Now assign the Job Progress Monitors to the group. For this select a Group and the select Add on the Group
Content table.

How to access to Group Configuration from the Job Management Work Center
To configure a new Job Progress Monitor open the Job Management Work Center and select Administration.
Select Configure Job Progress Monitor Groups in the Job Progress Monitor Configuration section.

Self Monitoring
The self-monitoring application collects all exceptions that have been reported by the Job Progress
Monitoring infrastructure.
In order to access the self-monitoring application open the Job Management Work Center and select
Administration. In section Job Progress Monitor select Self-Monitoring.

Check the content of the message log for errors and try to resolve these errors.

Thats it. You have successfully created a new Job Progress Monitor. Now start the mobile application, select
the monitoring group and enjoy monitoring the progress of your background jobs in real-time.
