WATER / WASTE

English
Class

Introduction:

Teresita De Jess Garibay

This report was made to obtain a passing score in the subject of English,
Lpez
also to improve knowledge of aircraft
systems, knowing the ATA 38 more
thoroughly, and above all learn this wonderful subject of English.

UNIT II

But what is ATA 38? First define ATA, this means (Air Transport

DREAM TEAM:

Association) it is a way of organizing the parts of an airplane and

maintenance.

ngel Alejandro
The ATA 38 is about Water/Waste.
Luna Soto

In this report we will talk about a specific ATA that is number 38.

What is it?

Ricardo Mndez
used on the lavatory, galley and draining.

WHY WE CHOSE AIRBUS A320?

Because we find more information about this aircraft and found most
interesting.

Potable Water System Description

The tanks of water are located in forward of de cargo boxes above the landing gears, are
three left and three rights. It has de option to add two more, and each tank has the
capacity of 283 liters.
The filling of the water tank is made of panel water service installed after lower fuselage
and have a valve panel fences service used to depressurize the system.

Potable Water Storage

The storage tank is arranged side by numbers depending on where they are.
Tanks1, 3.5 is on the left side. The tank2, 4, 6 are in the right side.
Each tank is connected to recirculate, also has ports for over flow and a filling or drainage.
Between the tank port shave to take and transmit the level of the water level (PWIP) to
calculate the average value of the tanks.

Air Supply System

The system is supplied by two compressors installed on left side of potable water tanks.
Theoperatingpressureis35psito 41psiand has a valve emergency lighting to130psiand has
a filter to ensure that noun wanted entering the water system things.

Potable Water Treatment Module

This module controls the module disinfection of potable water and the water heater to
maintain the temperature6-15C

Lavatory Water Supply Assembly

It is a unit that helps a valve to know what temperature want the user.

Control System Architecture

The PWIP is responsible for organizing all this and FAP are leading indicators of potable
water system, manages the amount of potable water and valve operation.

Toilet System Description

The toilet system is divided in four subsystems:

The left main deck

The right main deck
The left upper deck
The right upper deck

Every subsystem has:

A waste tank
A waste separator with filter
Galley Waste Disposal Units (GWDU)
Two absolute pressure sensors
A check valve
A waste drain valve

The toilet system uses potable water to clean the toilets and the
GWDUs. The tanks for the main deck toilets and GWDUs have a
capacity of 675 liters each one, while, the tanks for the upper deck
toilets and GWDUs have a capacity of 373 liters each one.
The waste water drain-system discards overboard the waste water
from the galley sinks and the lavatory wash basins. The waste water
flows through the drain valves to the FWD and the AFT drain mast
installed on the lower fuselage. The waste water is achieved by gravity
on ground and by differential pressure in flight.

Waste Water Drain System Description

o The system of wastewater is obtained from galley sinks,

and toilets.
o The waste water flows through the drain valves to the FWD
and the AFT heated drain masts installed on the lower
fuselage.
o The direction of the wastewater produced by gravity and
the differential pressure of the flight.
o Drain valves are usually closed type diaphragm. Only open
if a sufficient amount of residual water is collected.
o This prevents continuous leakage of air from the cabinet
through the drain lines.
o To avoid ice formation, the masts are electrically heated
drain

Container exchange
A change of container each time a flight is conducted is
performed. This to maintain quality and hygiene.

POTABLE PRESSURIZED WATER SYSTEM

The pressurized water system supplies:

- The RH front galley.
- The rear toilet washbasin.

The pressurized water system essentially includes a potable water tank

that can be filled by gravity through a filling port located on the RH of the
washbasin.

Conclusions:
By Mendoza (Ricardo Mndez):
Well this job was a little different of others, because we have to search
information about chapter 38 and we found a few information and all was
in English so we have to use all us English and try understand some
concepts.

By Brayan Ochoa:
In my opinion, in any type of aircraft, the water and waste system is the
same. The only difference is that in some aircraft may be included other
services that depend of water. For example tubs or Jacuzzis. This topic led
us to investigate further because it was very difficult to find differences of
this system in aircraft.

By Alex Luna:
It was complicated to seek information on the specifications of the plane as
drinking water and wastewater, size of the lavatory and galley, but an effort
by each of the dream team members was conducted and managed to find
the characteristics of the airplane, this work helped us to investigate
further the ATA chapter 38.
