0 Experiment outcome
At the end of the lab session student should be able:
i.
To construct accurately the pneumatic circuit.
ii.
To report briefly the pneumatic experiments in group
2.0 Theory
Limit switch and idle roller is the component of the pneumatic system that using to get the
continuous sequences. Limit switch will be activated in both directions while the idle roller
activate for one direction only. Both components will be apply in basic pneumatic circuit and
idle roller is very importance to prevent double signal from appear.
In designing in multi cylinder circuit, there are three (3) main method of circuit. The very
popular method is cascade system method that will be using combination of channels and
memory valve to prevent the double signal. Other type is step counter that consist of number
of module depending to the number of sequence movement and shift register method that are
combination of step counter and cascade system method.

4.0 Safety Precautions

First of all, it is important to mention some safety rules such as:
1. Do not start the experiment without the technician or lecturer.
2. Do not using damage equipment.
3. Make sure the pneumatic hose is plug in correct position and should be deep enough.
4. Setting an air supply to medium pressure (3 10 bars).
5. Stored all the component at their exact places after complete all the experiment.
6. Do not unplug the pneumatic hose during operation and etc.
5.0 Procedures
Based on given situation.
1. The pneumatic component needed to be used.
2. The pneumatic circuit was constructed.
3. The actual circuit on pneumatic workbench was developed/ assembled.
4. All the connection was checked.
5. The circuit was running.

Situation 1: Basic Multi Cylinder

As an engineer, you are given a task to develop a basic pneumatic circuit to transfer a box from
conveyor 1 to conveyor 2. This machine has two double acting cylinders. Once the box from
conveyor 1 reach to transfer station, the cylinder A will be extend and move the transfer station
to new location. Then the box on transfer station will be push by cylinder B to conveyor 2 for the
next task. Cylinder B only be retract after transfer station return to its original position.
Develop the basic pneumatic circuit for this situation.

Situation 2: Cascade System

The work piece is placed manually in the work holder. By press the push button, the part is now
folded by the vertical cylinder A as it is forced downwards into the bottom plate. After that, the
other two horizontally cylinder B extends to fold in the ends of the part. The operation is
continue with both of cylinder B retract to original position and follow by cylinder A.
The diagrams below showed the above working station.

Develop the pneumatic circuit by using cascade system method with two(2) channel.

6.0 Results and data

For each situation, sketch the:
i.
Time motion diagram (TMD)
ii.
Sequence movement (SM)
iii.
Pneumatic circuit
7.0 Discussion
i)
How to prevent double signal in basic pneumatic circuit and which signal need to be
terminate. Sketch and explain this situation.

ii)

What the purpose of memory valve in cascade system method. Sketch the symbol of
two (2) memory valve with three(3) channel include all label.

8.0 Conclusion
8.1 Deduce a conclusion from the result shown and from your observation.
