INTRODUCTION
Over the pages if this ebook we are going to share with a number of things:

A very low liability approach to laying horses to lose

How we developed and tested the system
The full results so you can see for yourself (see separate folder)
How we place our bets automatically using some great software
The exact settings we use (screenshots provided)
How you can adopt the same approach or tweak it to suit yourself if you prefer
How you can test it out and paper trade with a one-week trial of the software
A system for backing horses we use which has increased our starting bank by over 50%
(results provided)

DURING FULL OPERATION BETWEEN OCTOBER 2013 AND MAY 2014 OF THE REFINED LAYING
SYSTEM OUR STARTING BANK INCREASED BY JUST OVER 42%%. Please refer to the betting history
in the results folder.
We are not claiming this to be a miracle approach to laying which will make you a multi-millionaire
within a week. Without winning a Euromillions rollover thats not going to happen.....
What the approach we have tested and outline for you here could do is generate an additional extra
income stream for you with low risk. However as we all know that risk remains and losses are
possible so we make no guarantees and ask you to please never bet with money you cannot afford
to lose.
Whilst we are laying horses to lose in such a way as to minimise risk, there is absolutely:

No need for any prior knowledge or experience of horse racing

No form study required

Anyone can do this. All you need is:

An account with the Betfair betting exchange free bet available to new account holders
The software we will tell you about later and a free trial period
A computer with connected to the internet
A betting bank to start with (we started with 200)

Please CLICK HERE to open your Betfair account and get a 20 free bet for your trouble (insert offer
details)
Please CLICK HERE to check out the software we use for automatic bet placement theres a free
trial available too!
Yes, youve guessed correctly, the links are affiliate links and we will receive commission. But do
remember we are giving you this system/approach FOR FREE so ask you to use the links if you dont
mind please and think of it as our reward for giving this system/approach to you FREE.

Page |4

Whilst it is likely that most people reading this will have at least a little knowledge of horse racing
and betting exchanges, some may not so for the benefit of the uninitiated we will first give a brief
explanation of what Betfair is, what laying a horse means and an explanation of how the odds work.
Well do all that in the next chapter and then get in to the operation of it all and how we tested and
developed the laying approach/staking/system. Full results are provided in the separate results
folder for visibility and transparency.
Next chapter......

BETTING EXCHANGES AND ODDS

For those who may not know, a betting exchange is pretty much another form of bookmaker
although you are not betting against a bookmaker in the traditional way. It is other users of the
betting exchange who are offering their own odds and using their own money.
Therefore the odds available are often quite different from a traditional bookmaker as it is driven by
users and not a bookie trying to balance his books and liability. For the purposes of the approach we
developed we use Betfair odds only. That is important to remember. Betfair odds only. We will talk
about this in more detail later as we outline the approach.
The odds are displayed a little differently also. It is important that you understand how they work.
Again, you most likely do though we will outline it if you may be new to it or simply need a quick
refresher).
A traditional bookmaker may, for example show odds about a horse of say 2/1. On Betfair, this
would be displayed in a decimal format with 1 added. Thus 2/1 is 3.00.
Youll soon get used to it the principle being to subtract 1 from whatever odds you see up there.
IMPORTANT: We are not backing horses to win. We are doing the opposite. We are laying them to
lose if a selection loses, we win.
IMPORTANT: We are only concerned with horses which are odds on (but not all odds on horses
we have refined this based on testing and live running. Weve given you the results too).
Because we are only concerned with certain odds on horses our liability (risk) is always less than we
stand to win if the horse loses.
WORKED EXAMPLE:
A horse is odds on if the Betfair odds are 1.99 or less. Thats important to remember 1.99 or less.
1.99 means that for every 1 you stake, should the horse win your liability is 99p. However should
the horse lose (like we want it to.....) then you win 1. Therefore the risk is always less than the
reward.
Lets look at that another way. The horse has odds of 1.50. This means that for every 1 you stake
you are only risking 50p. If the horse wins you lose 50P. If it loses, you win 1.
Dont worry about that too much perhaps as we will show you how to set it up in the software in a
later chapter.
In the next chapter we will explain how we came up with the idea for the system, how we tested a
refined it and how it has performed.

Page |6

THE SYSTEM ORIGINS AND DEVELOPMENT

We had often spoken together (usually over a beer or when watching or even when at the races)
about how often the odds on certainty gets beaten. Time and time again. If only there was a way
to be able to lay those certainties without having to be sat in front of the laptop all day long
waiting for them........being at work and the day job gets in the way of that somewhat.
Just for a bit of fun we started to look at the results each day at the end of racing noting down the
number of odds on shots and how many lost. Almost every day at least one odds on favourite, often
more, lost which is what we wanted them to do.
But how could we get our bets on with those day jobs......?
A bit of time spent looking at betting software (something wed not considered or used before) and
we found the bit of kit we ended up using and being very happy with. It is easily configurable and
can be left running every day placing those lay bets automatically if the laying criteria are met. And
there was a seven day free trial. Awesome.....
So we downloaded it, set it up and let it go with a 200 starting bank. The starting criteria we set in
the software were simple:

Lay any odds on favourite (odds of 1.99 or less) in UK-only horse racing (England, Scotland,
Wales) flat, all weather or jumps and start looking for a qualifier 10 seconds before race
time.
Stake unit 2 (minimum stake on Betfair)
Staking plan: Fibonacci

About the staking plan: Fibonacci is a staking sequence based on adding the previous two numbers
together to arrive at with the next stake. For example:
2, 4, 6, 10, 16, 26, 42, 68, 110 and after each successful lay to start the sequence again from 2.
Our working assumption was that with a 200 starting bank and with odds of say 1.80 we could
stand nine consecutive unsuccessful lays at those odds before being wiped out and we further
assumed that was unlikely. Further that odds would be sometimes lower than 1.80 thus reducing
liability even further.
To illustrate that, assume consecutive unsuccessful lays all at odds of 1.80 (a liability of 80P per 1)
the actual loss would be:
WORST CASE @ 1.80
Stake ()
Loss ()
2
1.60
4
3.20
6
4.80
10
8.00
16
12.80
Page |7
http://www.freelayingsystem.co.uk

26
42
68
110

20.80
33.60
54.40
88.00

So with a starting bank of 200 and nine consecutive unsuccessful lay bets (each horse wins) all at
odds of 1.80 the total loss would be 227.20. But we assumed that with some being at less than 1.80
that our starting bank of 200 could withstand nine consecutive unsuccessful lays.

A bit more on the staking plan and why Fibonacci

The theory behind the Fibonacci approach being that a successful lay (i.e. the horse lost) would
recover previous losses and give a profit or at least recover the majority. And then we would start
the sequence again from 2.
You can see how that works from the betting histories/results included here, though heres a quick
example:
Stake
2
4
6

Odds
1.80
1.60
1.70

Liability
1.60
2.40
4.20

Won/Lost
Lost
Lost
Won

+/- Bet
-1.60
-2.40
+6.00

+/- Cumulative
-1.60
-4.00
+2.00

So after two unsuccessful lays resulting in a total loss of 4, the next qualifying lay was successful
(horse lost) returning a 6 profit, recovering the two previous losses and resulting in a 2 profit on
the sequence. Next bet would start again at 2.
POINT TO NOTE: The betting histories and results included here give you the full picture. You should
also be aware that Betfair levy a commission of 5% reducing depending on how much your
cumulative turnover is. You can set the software to adjust for commission (i.e take it in to account
and adjust your stake accordingly) which we would suggest you do.

Live betting and refinement

On the above basis, we went live and started active laying on 21 August 2013.
As mentioned on the previous page, starting criteria were:

200 starting bank

Lay any odds on favourite (odds of 1.99 or less) in UK-only horse racing (England, Scotland,
Wales) flat, all weather or jumps and start looking for a qualifier 10 seconds before race
time.
Stake unit 2 (minimum stake on Betfair)
Staking plan: Fibonacci
Page |8
http://www.freelayingsystem.co.uk

We won some, we lost some however it was an encouraging start and profits were made.
IMPORTANT NOTE: We did not run the software every day. It was installed on my laptop. I work
from home mostly so run it on the days I was at home (most days). I did not run it if I was out (at a
meeting for example) though you may decide to. Again, the betting history/results included shows
you exactly what happened.
There were good runs and bad runs. We took note of the results looking for trends on which the
approach could be refined. Something which stood out was that horses at 1.30 or less all won (losing
lays for us). So we took a decision to refine things so that the minimum odds for a qualifying lay
became 1.31 and made that adjustment in the software settings.
We also experimented resetting the staking sequence back to the start after a certain number of
unsuccessful lays (for example four, five, six) if it happened to see if there was enough in between
such sequences to recover losses.
As you can see from the betting histories this has mixed results with the law of sod being very
much in effect. Had we left it alone and let it ride so to speak a successful lay (winning bet for us)
tended to result.
Lesson learned: let it ride.

Further refinement time for a split approach

At this point we took a further decision on refinement even further by splitting the approach in to
two. The software allows for two systems to be run so we split out national hunt/jumps races and
ran them separately.
A further consideration leading to this split was an issue around race times. As we are using a
recovery-style staking plan it is necessary to know the result of one race in order for the correct
stake to be placed on the next qualifying bet.
With running on all flat/jumps races we noticed that ideally there needed to be at least a 10 minute
interval between race times to allow for this particularly if races may be delayed or, for example, a
marathon trip jumps race did not finish before the next race began.
With this in mind we further decided to refine the approach additionally in so far as we would not
operate on any day in which there was not at least ten minutes between race times. This tended to
mean that Saturdays were not betting days nor were bank holidays.
So the approach at this point had become:

Lay any odds on favourite (odds of 1.99 or less) in UK-only horse racing (England, Scotland,
Wales) flat, all weather or jumps and start looking for a qualifier 10 seconds before race
time.
Stake unit 2 (minimum stake on Betfair)
Staking plan: Fibonacci
Split out flat and jumps racing and run them separately
Page |9
http://www.freelayingsystem.co.uk

Do not bet on days where there is not at least 10 minutes between race times (usually
Saturdays)

We started to do this from 23 October 2013 with a further theory being that by doing this it should
help to protect against long losing runs and spread the risk further.
So at this point we had the software set in two tabs.
One tab set to lay any flat or all-weather race if the favourite was between 1.31 and 1.99 and the
other tab set to do the same for national hunt races. Each had a 200 starting bank again.
We monitored results to see if we could refine further.
The national hunt results were not good. More runs of consecutive unsuccessful lays than wed have
liked to see and losses occurred. Based on this, we took a decision to stop betting on national hunt
races and drop them all together as of 2 February 2014. Please refer to the betting history provided.
This left us with just the flat/all-weather system running which continued to do well.
As you can see from the betting history/results, since 23 October 2013 to time of writing (May 2014)
the overall performance of the refined flat/all-weather approach has been as follows:
Number of bets: 240
Average odds: 1.79
% successful: 42%
Increase in bank: 42.50%
This is using just 2.00 unit stakes a profit of 85.15 and a 40% increase to starting bank of 200.
Check out the betting history/results for confirmation.
Lets summarise things in the next chapter for you then we will show you exactly how to set up the
software including screenshots.
On to the approach summary.....

LAYING SYSTEM APPROACH SUMMARY

Heres a summary of the laying approach we have developed and outlined in the previous chapter.

Lay any odds on favourite (odds of 1.99 or less) in UK-only flat and all-weather horse racing
(England, Scotland, Wales)
Software to start looking for a qualifier 10 seconds before race time.
Stake unit 2 (minimum stake on Betfair)
Staking plan: Fibonacci
Do not bet on days where there is not at least 10 minutes between race times (usually
Saturdays)

If you feel comfortable with leaving your machine on and running the software whilst you are out
you can do that your choice. Or you can do it on days you are in again, your choice.
I run the software most days (as you can see from the betting history/results) as I work from home
though you may do whatever suits you.
You may also, if you wish, refine the approach further. All we are setting out in this ebook is the
approach to laying odds on favourites we have adopted after our testing and refinement. If you wish
to take a different twist on it or adapt it further then thats OK and the software is flexible enough to
allow you to adopt your own settings/criteria.
A full betting history and results can be seen in the results folder in your download.
In the next chapter we will run through the software and the exact settings we use to run the odds
on lays.

Next, scroll down until you come to the Fibonacci box. Enter your default stake as you have read
about we used just a 2 default stake to develop and test this approach. Set the Seq length to 9 and
hit Save when youre done. Then click Save Settings at the foot of the main screen.

That should conclude you setting up to lay according to the approach we have outlined in this ebook.
We do suggest you double check to satisfy yourself and also do so alongside the main software
manual as a further check.
Now its time to turn things on.....next page....

LIVE RUNNING
After you have configured the software its time to go live....!
In the Control box at the top right, select Active and in the Mode select Live or Test. The screen will
change to something like the below.
You may wish to operate in test mode first to be sure you are properly set up and not risking any of
your own money until you are sure. When you are content, simply change the mode to Live.

The software will look for qualifying bets in each qualifying race according to the parameters you
have set. You will be able to see this in the main screen above together with the next stake and how
your bank is doing. The software also keeps a full betting history which you can view by clicking the
View Betting Log button in the bottom right of the screen.
Now you can run the software every day or on whichever days you want to. As we mentioned earlier
in this ebook we do not run it every day (for example if out) but most days we do run it. The results
we have enjoyed at time of writing are:
Number of bets: 240
Average odds: 1.79
% successful: 43.3%

P a g e | 29
http://www.freelayingsystem.co.uk

Increase in bank: 42.5%

This is using just 2.00 unit stakes a profit of 81.15 and a 40% increase in a starting bank of 200.
Check out the betting history/results for confirmation.
Want to get started? Three simple steps:
1. Open a Betfair account by clicking here and get a 20 free bet
