DIAGNOSIS= General anxiety disorder
Holden has shown signs of General anxiety disorder every
since he has shown up at our clinic. He always seems to rant on and
worry about his problems. I didnt want to go home or anything until
they (his parents) got it and thoroughly digested it and all..My
mother gets very hysterical (page 51). To get through his worries and
problems Holden usually smokes or drinks alcohol to over come his
pain. Boy I sat at that goddamn bar till around one oclock or so,
getting drunk as a bastard (page 150). Holden constantly uses
smoking and drinking as a way to vent his anxiety. Holden told me
about a time when he had hired a prostitute named Sunny. For him this
probably created a lot of anxiety. After old Sunny was gone, I sat in the
chair for a while and smoked a couple of cigarettes (page 98). This is
just another example of his horrible habits of dealing with his
menacing anxiety.
Some of Holdens anxiety may have been caused by some recent
trauma. First of all Holden has been cooped up in a boarding school
with little to no contact to his family. He seems to mostly miss his sister
Phoebe. He always seems to mentioning her. The most traumatic
trauma is probably the death of his younger brother, Allie. Sometimes
Holden even has flashbacks to talking with Allie. What I did, I started
talking, sort of out loud, to Allie. I do that sometimes when I get very
depressed (page 98). Most people dont have flashbacks with people
who are not there. Holden has probably never gotten over the death of
his brother and is now living with the grief and anxiety that the death
of a child can cause. This might explain why he has such a strong
connection to his sister. He may feel that she is all he has left. He
wants to do everything he can so his sister is happy. Boy it made me
so happy all of a sudden. I could hardly wait to get to the park to see if

old Phoebe was around so that I could give it to her (page 116). The
only way for the grief of Allie to suppress is with alcohol, Cigarettes, or
Phoebes happiness.
I recommended a new drug to Holden who agreed to take it. The
new drug was Miltown. This drug is used to treat anxiety. Holden takes
1200Mg of Miltown a day as part of his treatment. I also recommended
a very prestigious therapist to help with the grief of Allie. Holden once
again agreed. He meets regularly with his therapist twice a week for as
long as Holden seems necessary. Holden seems to be getting a lot
better. He still drinks and smokes but not nearly as much (so he tells
me).
Holden has improved a lot since he has gotten at the clinic. He
should be released in a months time. When he is released I
recommend that he continues with his prescription to Miltown for as
long as he seems necessary.
