Deadloadsarestaticforcesthatarerelativelyconstantforanextendedtime.Theycanbeintensionor
compression.Thetermcanrefertoalaboratorytestmethodortothenormalusageofamaterialor
structure.
Liveloadsareusuallyunstableormovingloads.Thesedynamicloadsmayinvolveconsiderationssuch

that,forstructuraldesign,loadsareincreasedbyloadfactors.Theseloadfactorsare,roughly,aratioof

Thedeadloadincludesloadsthatarerelativelyconstantovertime,
includingtheweightofthestructureitself,andimmovablefixtures

Imposedloads
Liveloads,orimposedloads,aretemporary,ofshortduration,ora
movingload.Thesedynamicloadsmayinvolveconsiderationssuch
