Users

Chapter 3 Security

Users
When SamplerSight-Pharma is first installed, a Default User and an Administrator user
are created in the Administrators Group. The Administrators Group has all privileges
enabled. Both users start without passwords, but they should be assigned a unique
password as soon as possible.
Each user belongs to a Group which determines the users privileges. In other words, a set
of privileges is set for each Group and any member of that Group has all the privileges of
the Group. Each user should be assigned a unique password. Users can be added,
modified and deleted if the current user has that privilege. Any user can be deleted with
the following exceptions:
The Default User cannot be deleted.
The last user in the Administrators Group cannot be deleted.
A user report is available that shows all the configured users.

About Sample Labels

Labels are an important feature that allow data to be better organized and selected
(filtered). The default labels, Batch, Lot, and Location, can be changed to anything more
appropriate such as Product, Run, Lot. If the default labels are satisfactory, proceed to
Add a Sample Configuration on page 5-2.

Change the Default Labels

>> To change the default labels and change the labels as needed:
1 See Chapter 7 Display Configuration: Display, Labels, Channels, Samples.

Figure 5-1 Sample Configuration: USP<788>LVP window

When configuring a sample, entering information into the Sample Label fields is optional.
The program will prompt for information prior to initiating each sample, allowing
dynamic entry of variable identification data.
In cases where the information is static entering it during the initial sample configuration
stage will automatically populate the field each time the sample is run. An example of this
case would be if more than one instrument is owned, but they are located in different
areas. In this case it might be desirable to track the data generated by each instrument over
time to ensure consistent operator behavior. Entering the instrument serial number would
suffice, but using the actual physical location in the building might make it easier to
recognize which instrument generated the data.

Continuous Mode

When this check box is filled, the instrument/sensor samples continuously until the
Stop button is clicked.

Repeat Count

Repeat the sample x (integer) times. Ensure that Continuous Mode is not checked.

Discard Count

Discard x (integer) samples before collecting data on the next sample.

Sample Delay

The delay, in seconds, between samples. Set the field to zero (0) to have no delay
between samples. Sample delay is measured from the start of a sample to the start of
the next sample. This provides consistent start times. For example a set of data can be
created from samples starting every five minutes (300 seconds).
NOTE: If Sample Delay is less than the run time of the sample, no delay will occur.

Dilution Factor (1/x)

If a dilution was required to reduce the counts below the coincidence limit of the
particle counter, enter the factor here. SamplerSight-Pharma will report all data as the
undiluted value of the sample. Entering one (1) will result in no dilution. Entering
zero (0) is not allowed.

Drain Rate (ml/min)

The rate at which the sampler drains the syringe.

Fill/Flow Rate (ml/min) The rate at which the sampler draws fluid through the sensor. This parameter is
specific to the sensor. Use the default unless there has been a clear directive no to do
so. The sensor is calibrated at a specific flow rate.
Syringe Volume (ml)

The total volume of the syringe currently installed on the sampler.

Tare Volume (ml)

The volume of fluid remaining in the sample tubing. Can be calculated using formula
for volume of a cylinder or estimated at 1ml for the standard sample tube length
supplied with the instrument.

Sample Volume (ml)

The actual volume drawn through the sensor. This volume can be greater than the
syringe volume. In these cases, the sampler will draw multiple strokes of the syringe
until reaching the sample volume.

Configure Sample Channels

Chapter 5 Sample Configuration RS-485 and RS-232

Configure Sample Channels

The Sample Configuration windows is very similar for all instruments. The differences
will be in the number of channels, the channels that cannot be edited, and the particle size
in a channel. The LiQuilaz S02s Sample Configuration window, Channels tab
described below will represent the instructions for all instruments.
About channel settings:
Some channels may be predetermined and unchanged. Also, some channels are gray,
meaning they cannot be changed.
Items in the Enabled and Size columns that are shaded cannot be changed.
The items that are shaded will vary depending on the sensor used with the sampler.
Channel sizes must be in ascending order and without breaks in the list of sizes.
To collect a channels data, its Enabled check box must be filled.
The particle size channels configured here will determine what appears in the Data
Configurations window, Channels tab.
>> To configure the LiQuilaz S02s channels:
1 Click the Channels tab in the Sample Configuration window (see Figure 5-6).

Limits
A user-defined limit can be set for the acceptable number of particles in a sample channel.
While limits are set and enabled, SamplerSight-Pharma will notify the user when the limit
has been reached in a sample.
All limits use the same normalization and summation selection that is entered in the
Limits tab in the Sample Configuration window (see Figure 6-3 on page 6-3). Each
limit has a specific channel, value type, comparison operator, and value. An unlimited
number of limits can be defined, and multiple limits can be defined for each channel.
Limits are defined in each sample configuration.

Run-time Limits Notification

When enabled, the limits are checked when the sample configuration is run. If a value
matches one of the specified criteria the following is done:
The channel that meets the limit criteria will be displayed with a red background in the
channel upper left quadrant of the display.
The red background will only be displayed for the final (slow) sample not the
intermediate (fast) samples.
The red background will not persist for the next sample. It will be reset and only go red
again if the next sample matches the limit criteria.
An Alarm Status field in the lower left quadrant of the display will display Fail in red.
This field lets the user know that an alarm has been generated in this series.
This indication will remain visible for the rest of the series.
The Series Status field is only displayed when limits are defined in the sample
configuration being run. The field will display Pass if no limits parameters have been
reached or exceeded.
An entry is added to the activity log for every limit that is crossed.

Limits Reports Notification

The data reports include a status column that states whether the channel passed or failed
its limits criteria. This column is found in the Histogram Data, Tabular Data, Statistics
Horizontal Data, and Statistics Vertical Data reports.

Viewing and Exporting Collected Data
As samples are analyzed, the data can be observed on the Main Display window in the
form of a histogram or a time plot.
Previously collected data can be viewed in the following forms:
Data Display (Data Review) on the PCs screen
Standard Reports (see Reports on page 9-4)
Time Plots (see Viewing Time Plots on page 9-9)
All displays can be modified to varying degrees to meet presentation needs. Data can also
be exported to a location on the PC or network in one of several common formats.
Also, reports can be exported. See:
Exporting Reports on page 9-14
Exporting Data in CSV File Format on page 9-15

About the Size of Data Files

Thoughtful use of the date and time range settings and the filter criteria will limit the data
extracted. This reduces the size of reports and the size of the time plot. Otherwise, the
reports and time plot can be very large, making it difficult to find information.
After clicking the Retrieve Data button and the Refresh button, a status dialog box
appears (see Figure 9-1). If the retrieval progress bar has reached only 50% after 30
seconds, consider further refinement of the date/time range and filter settings.

Stopping Calibration before Completion

Chapter 12 Calibration

6 Select the size to be run by clicking in the check box found under the particle size

header row.

7 Agitate the sample container you will be drawing from to minimize sedimentation of

the larger PSL particles.

8 Immerse the sample tube into the sample container.

9 Click the Next button.

The Calibration Wizard is minimized during the run to enable display of the histogram
and tabular data. When the calibration sample is complete, the Calibration Wizard is
displayed again.
NOTE: Once a size has been run the user can no longer click the
Back button to change the sample configuration.
10 Observe the text bar at the bottom of the Calibration Run window for particle

concentration error messages. If a concentration or insufficient counts error message

appears, add more particles to the calibration sample or dilute the calibration sample as
required, and run the calibration sample again.

11 When calibration data for the current particle size has been successfully collected,

move the sample intake tube to the next appropriate sample bottle, fill the check box for
that particle size, and click Next.

12 When all sizes have been run successfully, click the Finish button to end the calibration

process.

The calibration is stored to the calibration database, and the user is asked if they want to
download the calibration data to the instrument.
During download, a window announces that the data is being downloaded, and when the
download is complete.
13 Click the Finish button again to close the Calibration Wizard.

Stopping Calibration before Completion

If the Calibration Wizard is closed before all sizes have been sampled, the data is not
stored to the calibration database. In that situation, the next time calibration is performed,
the user has the option of selecting Finish calibration on the Calibration Wizard start
page. Data from the last calibration is then displayed on the Calibration Run window.
Sampling parameters cannot be changed when doing a Finish calibration.
If the user clicks on Finish calibration, clicks Next and then clicks the Back button to
return to the welcome page, the data will be cleared and the Finish calibration option will
no longer be available.

Verify Calibration

Verify Calibration
Verifying calibration allows the user to see how the calibration has changed since the last
calibration.
>> To verify calibration:
1 From the main display, click Perform > Calibration.
The Calibration Wizard appears.
2 Click the Verify option in the Calibration Wizard.
3 Click the Next button.

On the size page, a Size Change row will be displayed instead of raw Cumulative
Counts. Size Change is calculated as the percent size shift between the known actual
calibration particle size and the observed result size of the calibration sample. If the
calibration particle size is greater than the observed result size, the calculation is the
following:
(Actual Size - Result Size) / Result Size * 100
If the calibration particle size is less than the observed result size, the calculation is the
following:
(Result Size - Actual Size) / Result Size * 100

View Calibration Data

Calibration data stored in the calibration database can be viewed by selecting View >
Calibration from the main menu. This menu item is only enabled when using instruments
that allow calibration (currently only the LiQuilaz-E). A window is displayed showing the
calibration data.

View Data for a Single Flow Rate

>> To view calibration data for a particular flow rate:
1 Open the Flow Rate pull-down selection list and select the correct flow rate.

View Data for All Flow Rates

>> To view calibration data for all flow rates:
1 Open the Flow Rate pull-down selection list and select All.

View Most Recent Data for a Single Flow Rate

>> To view the most recent calibration data for a particular flow rate:
1 Open the Flow Rate pull-down selection list and select the correct flow rate.
2 Check the View most recent calibration check box.

Send Data to the Instrument

>> To send calibration data to the instrument:

Calibration data can be selected and then sent to the instrument by clicking the Download
button. A window displays the status of the download. When the download completes, a
success message is displayed.
The download may take up to a minute to complete. If a communication problem occurs
before download completion, the download will never complete and no success message
will be displayed. In this case, the communication problem must be fixed and the
download attempted again.

View Calibration Report

>> To view the calibration report:
1 Click the Report button.

The calibration report is generated by Crystal Reports. The report can be displayed,
printed, or exported.
