Los Carnavales de Carpano

Los Carnavales de Carpano es uno de los carnavales ms famosos de

Venezuela por lo que ha sido reconocido (conjuntamente con el Carnaval de El
Callao), como evento de Inters Turstico Regional y declarado por el Instituto
de Patrimonio Cultural de Venezuela como evento de Inters Turstico Nacional
en marzo de 2014. Los carnavales de la ciudad costea de Carpano, al norte
del Estado Sucre entre las pennsulas de Paria y Araya, se celebran entre
febrero y marzo, segn el ao, cuarenta das antes de la Pascua. Durante
cuatro das se combinan diversos elementos festivos como disfraces, desfiles,
carrozas y fiestas en la calle con bandas y gente bailando libremente.
Los carnavales de Carpano se originaron formalmente a mediados de
los aos 1950 para divergir de las tradicionales guerras de agua. Se eligi una
reina para el carnaval, costumbre que persiste hasta la fecha. Sin embargo, las
fiestas no pasaban de celebraciones en la calle aisladas entre una comunidad y
la siguiente.
El carnaval de Carpano recibe cada ao a miles de visitantes, quienes
atrados por las alegres fiestas y comparsas, han enfrentado toda una serie de
vicisitudes junto a los residentes, quienes se niegan a dejar morir esta tradicin.
Los pobladores se encargan de los preparativos de la fiesta con
suficiente antelacin. Desde muy temprano (dos o tres meses antes),
comienzan la recoleccin de fondos, algunos de origen oficial, la preparacin
de los disfraces, la composicin de temas musicales, los ensayos de los
msicos y bailarines y el alquiler de los equipos necesarios para garantizar que
todo est listo para los esperados dos das de celebracin. El grito de carnaval
se da en el mes de Enero con gran algaraba entre los residentes de toda la
poblacin. An cuando no hay un grito unsono como tal, la cantidad de msica,
bandas y conciertos de ese da son de tal magnitud que al conjunto de
celebraciones se le llama "Grito" del Carnaval de Carpano.
El carnaval de Carpano, fue decretado como carnaval internacional en
la VI convencin nacional de turismo, realizada en 1996 en la ciudad de San
Cristbal, Estado Tchira. Desde hace ya muchsimo tiempo, es reconocido

como una de las mejores celebraciones de carnaval de todo el pas aparte de

la celebrada en el Callao, ya en 1883, era reseado en los peridicos de la
poca, la tradicin de este alegre carnaval.
Adems la poblacin, es visitada por muchas personas tanto extranjeros
como venezolanos, quines atrados por las alegres fiestas y comparsas, han
enfrentado toda una serie de vicisitudes junto a los residentes, quienes se
niegan a dejar morir esta tradicin. Desde la vecina Isla de Trinidad vienen
algunos conjuntos de Stell Band para amenizar las fiestas.
Es por ello, que a esta celebracin se le ha dado el ttulo de "Carnaval
Turstico Internacional de Venezuela", Muchos llaman a este carnaval una
celebracin "diferente" porque no se suele jugar con agua, y la eleccin de la
reina y mini-reina del carnaval, est acompaada de la eleccin de la
Lucirnaga (una reina vestida de hombre y mujer combinada), siendo est, una
tradicin del carnaval, desde hace ya 15 aos.
The Carnivals of Carpano
The Carnivals of Carpano is one of the most famous carnivals in
Venezuela so it has been recognized (along with the Carnival of El Callao), as
an event of Regional Tourist Interest and declared by the Institute of Cultural
Heritage of Venezuela as an event of National Tourist Interest in March 2014.
The carnivals of the coastal town of Carupano, north of Sucre State between
the peninsulas of Paria and Araya, are celebrated between February and
March, according to the year, forty days before Easter. For four days, various
festive elements such as costumes, parades, floats and street parties with
bands and people dancing freely combined.
The carnivals of Carupano were formally originated in the mid-1950s to
diverge from traditional water fights. A queen is elected for carnival, custom that
persists to date. However, the parties were no more than celebrations in the
street isolated between a community and the next.
The Carnival of Carpano receives thousands of visitors who attracted by
the joyous festivals and parades, have faced a series of vicissitudes alongside
the residents who are refusing to let die this tradition every year.

The inhabitants are responsible for the preparations for the party in
advance. From very early (two or three months before), they begin fundraising,
some official source, preparing the costumes, the composition of musical
themes, rehearsals of musicians and dancers and rental of equipment
necessary to ensure that everything is ready for those expected two days of
celebration. The cry of carnival occurs in the month of January with great
fanfare among residents of the entire population. Although there is not a unison
cry as such, the amount of music, bands and concerts that day are of such
magnitude that to the set of celebrations called Cry Carnival Carpano.
The Carnival of Carpano, was declared as an international carnival in
the VI National Convention tourism in 1996 in the city of San Cristobal, Tachira
State. Since as long ago, is recognized as one of the best carnival celebrations
across the country apart from the one held in Callao, and in 1883, was reviewed
in the newspapers of the time, the tradition of this merry carnival.
Besides the population, is visited by many people both foreign and
Venezuelan, who attracted by the joyous festivals and parades, have faced a
series of vicissitudes alongside the residents who are refusing to let die this
tradition. From the neighboring island of Trinidad are some sets of Stell Band to
liven up the holidays.
It is for this reason that this celebration has been given the title of
"International Tourist Carnival of Venezuela" Many call this carnival a "different"
celebration because they usually do not play with water, and the choice of the
queen and mini- carnival queen, is accompanied by the choice of the Firefly (a
queen dressed as a man and women combined) is still a tradition of carnival
