THE STANDARD CONSTITUTION

For the Literary Society of Department Of

Architecture
Faculty of Architecture and Ekistics
Jamia Millia Islamia

ARTICLE I
1.1
Name of the society
The name of this society shall be 'ARAICH' - Literary Society of Department Of
Architecture, chartered by, or as suggested by the Subject Association of the Department
Of Architecture.
1.2
Purposes
(a) To create and foster a spirit of understanding of language amongst students of the
faculty.
(b) To promote the principles of good and functionally correct language amongst the
students.
(c) To take an active interest in the students' writing skills and to promote them on faculty
level platform.
(d) To unite the members in the bonds of friendship, good fellowship and mutual
understanding amongst seniors and juniors.

(e) To provide a forum, for the open discussion of all matters of literary interest; provided,
however, that partisan politics, sectarian religion and other matters of sensitive communal
importance shall not be debated by society members.
(f) To encourage students to develop writing skills without personal financial reward and
inputs, and to encourage efficiency so as to promote high ethical standards in commerce,
industry, professions, public works and private endeavours.

1.3
Forums
The society shall provide media for the exchange of ideas and views on a particular topic or
issue.
The forums may be as follows:
A magazine; quarterly, six-monthly or annually, depending upon the availability of resources
and the consensus among the Convenor, Co-Convenor and the Subject Association.
An e-magazine.
A blog.
Gatherings for discussions, exchange of ideas, suggestions; organised by the society within
the faculty premises.

1.4
The society shall have the liberty to organise every literary event or competition occurring in
the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Architecture and Ekistics, under its aegis.

1.5
Non-discrimination policy
The society must be fair to all.
The society and its members shall not discriminate against any individual(s) for reasons of
age, colour, disability, gender identity or expression, national origin, race, religion, sex, or
veteran status.

ARTICLE II
2.1
Officers
2.1.1
The officers of this society shall be a Convenor, from amongst the members of the Subject
Association and a Co-Convenor from amongst non-members of the Subject Association.
2.1.2
Any officer of this society may be removed from office for good cause by two-thirds (2/3)
vote of the Subject Association.

ARTICLE III
3.1
Members
3.1.1
Eligibility for membership
Subject to the provisions of Article 1 of the by-laws, any person having interest in English,
Urdu or Hindi language writing and good command over the structure and grammar of the
aforementioned languages, may be granted membership in this Literary society, subject to
his regular participation in submission of content of his choice or based on a theme, if
provided. Wherever the male gender or pronoun presently appear in this constitution, it shall
be interpreted to mean both male and female persons.
3.1.2
Forfeiture of membership.
Any member may be expelled from the society for cause by a two-thirds of votes by joint
decision of the Convenor, Co-Convenor and the Subject Association. This society shall
remove members whose conduct has been deemed a violation of the Constitution and ByLaws.

3.2
Participants
Any individual, student or a faculty member, of the any course or department can be
regarded as a participant if he looks forward to submitting his content so as to have it
considered for publishing in any of the aforementioned forums in Article I, 1.3, or participates
in the events organised by the society.
A participant shall not be liable to attend any of the meetings of the society, nor will be his
involvement in the society other than submitting content for publishing and participating in
the events organised by the society.

ARTICLE IV
4.1
Working Committee
4.1.1
A committee shall be formed, consisting the Convenor, the Co-Convenor and additional
members of the society whose number shall range from 3 to 5.
The selection of the aforementioned members of the society in the working committee shall
be a joint decision of the Convenor and the Co-Convenor.
4.1.2
The roles and responsibilities of the working committee shall be as follows:

(a). Editing and proof-reading contents of literary significance, submitted by the


members of the society or any participant, to the literary society.
(b). Checking the genuineness of facts
(c). checking plagiarism.

4.1.3
The roles and responsibilities to each individual of the abovementioned working committee
shall be assigned by a joint decision of the Convenor and the Co-Convenor.

4.1.4
It will be the responsibility of every member of the working committee, to keep the committee
updated with the task upheld by him, through electronic medium or otherwise in the
committee meeting.

4.2
Tenure of the working committee
4.2.1
The Convenor and the Co-Convenor will be permanent members of the working committee.
4.2.2
The other members appointed by the Convenor and the Co-Convenor shall be in the working
committee for a period of two months from the date of appointment; However, they may be
reappointed after proper evaluation of their services as the members of the working
committee, done jointly by the Convenor and the Co-Convenor.
4.2.3
If the officers of the society deem any appointed member of the working committee unsuited
to his role, they may dismiss him.
The dismissed member(s) of the working committee may be reappointed by the decision of
the officers of the society.

4.3
The Convenor and/or the Co-Convenor shall decide as to when to have a working committee
meeting.
If there occurs a contradiction amongst the members of the working committee, the CoConvenor and the Convenor will jointly act upon the matter.

ARTICLE V
5.1
Meetings

5.1.1
General meeting
A general meeting should be held twice an academic year, the officers can call for a meeting
whenever they find it necessary to have one.
Apart from the two scheduled General meetings, one emergency general meeting can be
called by the officers of the society.
5.1.2
Working Committee meeting
Refer to Article IV, 4.3.

ARTICLE VI

6.1
Final Decision-making
The Standard Constitution shall govern the society unless otherwise amended so as not to
conflict with the routine functioning of the Department Of Architecture. Whenever there may
exist a conflict or a contradiction between the provisions set out in the constitution, the
respective, namely the Convenor and the Co-Convenor, in accordance with the Subject
Association shall govern the functioning.

ARTICLE VII

6.1
Amendment in the constitution

6.1.1
Members of the society and faculty members of Faculty of Architecture and Ekistics may
propose amendments in the standard constitution.
6.1.2
Proposed amendments should be mailed to the Co-Convenor, who shall, in turn, forward it to
the Convenor after duly reviewing it.
6.1.3
The Convenor shall review it further, before presenting it to the Subject Association in the
subsequent meeting.
6.1.4
Any part of the constitution may be amended for good cause by two-thirds (2/3) vote of the
Subject Association.
