Lifes Better With Friends
Specific Purpose Statement: To persuade my audience into having an active social life.
Thesis: Having an active social life leads to numerous psychological and health benefits.
Introduction
As human beings we want to be social with others of our species. The human race is not wired
for isolation. There are several studies that prove social interaction boosts moral on every level.
Even though people are more connected in 2014 than years prior they still feel more alone than
they have in any year prior to 2014.
(Transition: Let me show you what youre doing wrong with your social life.)
Body
I. People are quickly loosing people skills.
A. People over analyze their situations.
1. Males and females alike are extremely anxious to express their interest in a potential
partner.
2. Many people experience anxiety when making simple decisions such as the choice of
an entre at a restaurant.
B. People are not gaining important common sense.
1. Common sense is gained through mistakes made with other humans who use
collective intelligence to learn from the mistakes.
2. According to a local expert on common sense, people now have to be almost 25 to
have the same common sense as a 16 year old from 40 years ago.
C. Social media cant replace person to person interaction.
1. Social media was not created as a substitution to real interaction.

2. Using social media to interact is easier than interacting in person and therefore makes
people less prepared for real interactions.
(Transition: Now let me explain three steps that will make you more social and enhance your
life.)
II. These three simple steps will make you a more social and likeable person immediately.
A. Be confident.
1. By being confident, you will show others that being around you will enhance their
lifes.
2. This confidence will make others feel happier around you which will in turn make
you happier.
B. Never be a Debbie Downer
1. When people are socializing in groups they want to be happy and joyous so being a
Debbie downer will only make people isolate you.
2. In order to get the most out of social interactions you need to have an open mind
which is impossible if youre down on life.
C. Put down the cell phone
1. Give your eyes a break from the screen and show them something real.
2. You might even meet some of your friends from social media and actually get to
know them.
(Transition: So, if you want to better your life.)
Conclusion
Just follow the three easy steps outlined above. The first step is to be confident and take chances
with your life. The second step is to be the life of the party and never be a Debbie Downer. The
final step to bettering your life today is to put down the social media and actually get to know
people!
