Abstract
Microbes spread easily in our community by means of having physical contact
with a contaminated object, living or non-loving, which leads to the purpose of the
research study; to stop the increasing number of people who acquire diseases from
microbes. This study aims to produce a product that will prevent our society from
obtaining diseases that may result to unproductiveness. Researches had been
conducted regarding on the matter of killing and stopping microbes from spreading. The
main objective is to exterminate certain microbes naturally. The study promotes the use
of guyabano peelings as the main ingredient in the production of a natural hand
sanitizer. The utilized materials include the electric mixer, mixing bowl and utensils,
which are accessible at the researchers house. The ingredients used were purchased
from different private sellers. In producing the natural hand sanitizer, Gravitizer, the
guyabano peelings were obtained and washed. The guyabano peelings were blended to
obtain the peelings aqueous extract with less effort. The aqueous extract of the
peelings holds an anti-microbial property and vitamins which can improve our immunity.
The Aloe Vera Gel was mixed to the extract to avoid several skin complications. Mostly,
guyabano peelings are thrown away it will be much economical if we are able to create
something out of it. Almost everybody can produce and buy one. By the use of this
natural sanitizer we can improve our health and prevent microbes from harming our
well-being. As we all know, prevention is better than cure.

Introduction
Microbes are everywhere. They are naturally occurring in the soil, air, water,
human body, animals, insects and other non-living objects. They are known to spread
diseases to humans and animals alike. Microbes include parasites, bacteria, germs and
fungi.
The researchers conducted this study because they were concerned about the
widespread infections occurring to the society. The objective is to create a substance
that will help prevent future episodes of these incidents.

Background of the Study

In order for us to live, we must maintain a good health. The emergence of
diseases is a threat for being productive. A man does his activities remarkably when he
is healthy. And in order to do so, we must take prevention. The researchers aim to
produce an antimicrobial solution that will help eradicate certain bacteria that can help
microbes from harming our societys well-being.
The aqueous extract of the Guyabano fruit has an antibacterial property. It is
antimicrobial against Staphyllococcus aureus, a Gram positive cocci which is a natural

flora of the human body especially the face, and Vivrio cholerae which is a positive
agent of cholera and causes diarrhea that can lead to dehydration, infection and
complication. Antimicrobial or bactericidal substance destroys bacteria.
Based from Wikipedia, hand sanitizer is an alternative for washing our hands with
soap and water. It can be prepared in form of gel, foam or liquid solution. The use of an
alcohol based hand sanitizer is more effective in killing microbes than soaps. It can
prevent the transmission of dangerous diseases.
Statement of the Problem
Is soursop or guyabano an essential ingredient to produce an effective hand sanitizer?
Significance of the Study
Obtaining certain illness and diseases from microbes can cause health
complications or even death. These cases can be also prevented by the use of a hand
sanitizer. The guyabano aqueous extract added to the hand sanitizer have antimicrobial
properties that can destroy certain bacteria that other commercialized hand sanitizers
cant.

Review of Related Literature

This chapter is a review of the existing literature relevant to the topic of
Guyabanos potential. More specially, this chapter is a review of topics including: what
can guyabano contains, the effect of its extract.
In this part of research, are related ideas and topics about guyabano and how
can it affect our lives. The following information are gathered from different literatures,
both local and foreign.
Local Literature
Guyabano (Anona Muricata), or soursop in English, is a small tropical fruit tree
bearing a sweet, heart haped fruit with a soft-spine green outer skin and soft pulpy white
flesh. The fruit was tested against staphylococcus, e coli and other common bacterias
for anti-microbial capability and toxicity. (Malaya, 2012)
The fruit together with its leaves, stems, roots, seeds and bark is concocted into
expensive juices and capsules and is marketed to cure asthma, arthritis, heart, liver
diseases,. One literature said, that the guyabano extracts are 10,000 times stronger
than aadnamyan, a drug used in chemotherapy treatments. (Philippine Daily Inquirer,
2012).
Aloe Vera is very popular substance commonly used in shampoos, body lotions,
cosmetics and juice drinks. According to the book of Martindale: The extra

pharmacopeia, considered the bible of pharmacology. It is widely used in cosmetics

and toiletries for it is reported moisturizing and revitalizing action. There are also claims
of the beneficial and even curative properties of aloe vera gel in the self-treatment of
medical conditions (Mirror Weekly, 1999).
Anona muricata have exhibited antibacterial activity against numerous
microorganisms such as Plasmodium falciparum, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas
aeruginosa,

Shigella

flexneri,

Staphylococcus

aureus,

Staphylococcus

albus,

Salmonella typhosa, Salmonella newport, and Serratia macescens (Raintree Nutrition,

Inc. 2004).
The guyabano fruit is an excellent source of Vitamins B and C though the flesh of
this fruit was reported to be deficient in calcium, phosphorous and Vitamin A.
(Quisumbing, 1951).

Foreign Literature
Numerous studies have been conducted on the plant Anona muricata L. Due to its
wealth of cytotoxic cancer substances active against numerous cancer cell lines, this
Guyabano fruit had been given more attention than the others. (Reiser et al. 1993).
Anona muricata L. is known to have antimicrobial properties. The Guyabano
have antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral potentials. (Taylor 2005).

Definition of terms

Guyabano - Guyabano fruit is a green, pear-shaped fruit covered with soft spines.
Matured guyabano or soursop fruit weighs about 2 to 5 kilograms. Guyabano fruit is
ovoid and large, up to 18 centimeters long, with thin skin and the soft edible whitish
pulp that is fleshy and fibrous. Guyabano has inedible black seeds. Guyabano fruit
or soursop fruit has distinct sweet-sour flavor that tastes like pineapple and

strawberry with a tang of sour citrus taste.

Aloe Vera - Aloe vera is a cactus plant that belongs to the Liliaceae family. It grows
in dry climates such as those found in parts of Africa and India and has been used
medicinally for centuries. Aloe leaves secrete a clear gel that when broken off from

the rest of the plant that can be applied topically to heal wounds and soothe skin.
Hand Sanitizer - is a supplement or alternative to hand washing with soap and
water. Various preparations are available, including gel, foam, and liquid solutions.
The active ingredient in hand sanitizers may be isopropanol, ethanol, n-propanol,
or povidone-iodine

Gathering of the Materials

Fresh guyabano fruits weighing 6kg were gained from a public market near the
researchers house. The 500 mL Aloe Vera gel was obtained from a private seller in
Muntinlupa City. Bowl, ladle, and hand sanitizer container were used in the experiment,
all of which are obtained from the researchers house.
Extraction of the Guyabano Aqueous Extract
After the separation of the peelings from the fruit, the researchers gained less
than half a kilo of peelings. The peelings were blended by the use of an electric mixer.
The peelings were placed on a cloth and was compressed manually. 25mL of aqueous
extract from the peelings was obtained
Mixing the Ingredients
Mixing of ingredients in the bowl one by one was done. The 25mL aqueous
extract gained was poured into the bowl and was followed by 75mL Aloe vera gel. It was
stirred and the solution was then transferred to a clean hand sanitizer container.

the researchers conclude that there is a statistically significant probability that the
relationship between two variables exists and not due to chance, and reject the null
hypothesis.
The researchers then reject that there is no significant difference between the
commercialized sanitizer and Guyabano sanitizer and instead accept the research
hypothesis that there is a significant difference between the two santizers.

Conclusion
Based on the data gathered, the researchers therefore conclude that the
gravitizer is more effective than the commercialized hand sanitizer in terms of texture,
smell and moisturizing effect. The testers also commented the good effects that they felt
during the testing.

Recommendation
The researchers recommend to not only to use the gravitizer but to expand its
natural wonder. So that in the near future this study will be further more enhance and so
as the product which is the gravitizer.
