hola amigo!
This summer, kids at ten apartment complexes (six on the Far

Eastside, four in the International Marketplace) are getting creative,

eating healthy snacks, and checking out books from the Indianapolis
Public Librarys Bookmobile. the Big Car team brings art to people where
they are, and instigating neighborhood pride.

chalk it up By john clark

Some kids like to use markers when drawing with Fun Fleet. Others zero
in on pencils or go right for the crayons. This girl grabbed the sidewalk
chalk and drew a heart with two swift curly swoops and looked around
and found more surfaces to decorate. Her expression wondered: what to
draw next? Draw an animal, I suggested. I can draw a cat! and she
did. Instantly. Next two mice appeared, then a bird and a ball of yarn.
I can draw dogs! and she did. The new chalk menagerie seemed to be
enjoying themselves in their new domain, which only a few minutes before
was plain ordinary sidewalk concrete. Can you draw snakes? I asked.
Oh, yes, we used to have a snake. With that she chose a piece of garter
green chalk and animated a nest of playful snakes at my feet inspiring
me to dance and laugh as if tickled by their serpentine antics. This little
girl had created a storyline. She made a fable. Instinctively. Instantly.
Delightfully. I will always remember that tale. Wonder what she will name
it? Ill ask her next week
