1st Essay Assignment Greek Civilization

Essays are to be 1500-2500 words in 12 pt font, double spaced, submitted in a Microsoft Word Document.
Essays must use at least TWO primary sources (you can get a lot of these from your Readings in Greek
History textbook) and at least THREE secondary sources (by the way, remember that your Pomeroy
textbook counts as a secondary source).
Due Date: March 25th, 8:00PM to be submitted via email.
Remember to cite your sources in MLA style (do a Google search if you dont know what this is).
Choose ONLY ONE Essay Topic below to answer! Please note that the sources below are suggested
reading of where you can start, these are not necessarily the only sources you can use. That being said,
DO NOT provide secondary sources that seem to have nothing but information provided by Wikipedia,
Ask.com, Yahoo! Answers, etc. as this is a University paper and needs to have University level, peer

Essay 3: Discuss the various uses colonization by the Archaic city-states. Was colonization always
for reasons of overpopulation? What were the responsibilities of the colonists once they got to the
colony? Was there any way they could return? What were the ups and downs of a colonys relation
with its metropolis? When answering your question, provide at least 2-3 specific examples of Greek
colonies (i.e. dont just mention them, but give a measured yet concise description of them).
