IwasworkingonfinalizingdataconversionactivitiesformyclientandfoundthatIhad
inadvertentlycreatedamaterialmasterwithanonprintablecharacter.Specifically,theASCII
character160(nonbreakingspace)gotsomehowappendedtotheendofthematerialmaster
number.Iwanttogetridofitandcreatethepartnumberastheclientexpectstoseeit.
Fortunately,thismaterialhasnoactivitysofarwhichshouldbodewellforarchiving.Beingnot
familiarwitharchiving,mycolleaguepointedoutacoupleofprogramsthatcanaccomplishthe
taskwithoutgoingthroughthepainofarchiving,etc
ThefirststepusesprogramMMREO050.

Executetheprogramandyoullfindtheselectionscreenbelow.

Inthefirstgroup,youcanenterarangeofmaterials.LeavethecheckboxlabeledConsidermatls
w/odel.flaguncheckedifthematerialsyouaredeletingalreadyhavethedeletionflagset.Inthe
secondgroup,youcansettheindicatortoremovethedeletionflagonmaterialsthatcannotbe

deletedwiththisprogram.Inthethirdgroup,thetestmodeflagissetbydefault.Uncheckthisto
committhechangestothedatabase.
Thescreenshotsbelowshowtheprocessforadummymaterialthatisextendedtotwoplants.The
deletionflagisnotset.

Executeintestmodetoseeifanyconflictsexist.Theresultisfairlylong.Thetopsectionshowsall
ofthetablesthatareaffected.

Youcantellfromthenumberofentriesthatthisisnosmalltaskthisisjustonematerial.

Thelistaboveshowsthecountinthetablesread.Notethatmanyofthetablesarezeroes.When
notintestmode,anidenticallistingappearsshowingthecountoftheentriesdeleted.

Finally,anothersectionshowingthestatisticsyoullfindoneforeachmaterialandthenasummary
forallmaterials.Gobacktotheselectionscreenanddeselectthetestmodeflag.

Thereisoneadditionalsectionwhenrunningincommitmode.Itwouldappearthatthese
transactionsareactuallyperformingthearchivefunctions,butwithoutalloftherigmaroleofSARA.
Essentially,theinformationhereshowsthearchivingdata.

default.Executingherebringsupawindowwithalistingofallofthearchivingobjectscreatedin
thepreviousstep.

Expandtheselectiontreeandselecttheobjectsthatshouldbedeleted.Intheexample,therewas
onlyoneobject.Itisconceivablethatonecouldhaveexecutedthepreviousprogramseveraltimes
andgeneratedseveralobjects.Inthiscase,therewouldbemorethanoneentryinthepopup.Click
onthegreenchecktocontinue.
Ineithertestorcommitmode,thereisalongoutputwithseveralsectionssimilartothefirststep
above:tablestatistics,entriesread/deleted,andobjectstatistics.

Reviewthisoutputtomakesurethatthenumberslooklikewhatyoudexpecttohavebeendeleted.
Inthisexample,onlyonematerialwasdeleted.Obviously,youcouldalsousestandard
transactionstocheckthatthematerialisnolongeravailable.
