-ie verbs
For verbs that end in -ie, change the ie to y before adding -ing:
die becomes dying

Verbs that end in 'y':
Verbs that end in 'y' often change 'y' to 'ie' before 's':
(Be careful! 'y' doesn't change to 'ie' if the ending is 'ay', 'ey', 'oy', 'uy'. So, play
becomes plays, say becomes says, buy becomes buys, enjoy becomes enjoys, stay
becomes stays)
1. For verbs that end in -O, -CH, -SH, -SS, -X, or -Z we add -ES in the third
person.

2. For verbs that end in a consonant + Y, we remove the Y and add -IES.
marry marries
study studies
carry carries
worry worries
NOTE: For verbs that end in a vowel + Y, we just add -S.
