Send a team of students to participate in the 10th Student Standards Olympiad in Seoul

Dear Sir/Madam,
The Korean NC and KATS, together with the IEC encourage you to send a team of three students
and one teacher to participate in the 10th Student Standards Olympiad that will take place in August
2015 in Seoul.
This year, for the first time, Korea has decided to open up the competition to include all interested
countries that participate in the IEC, inviting them to send each one team.
See the website and video for last years contest, which focused on reducing water consumption.
This years topic will focus on electrotechnology and the winning project will receive a prize from the
IEC General Secretary & CEO.
The objectives of the Olympiad are to improve the awareness of middle and high school students
across the world about standards and to contribute to convenient and safe living by providing an
opportunity to experience standards in everyday life.
The overall first prize of the Olympiad is given to the winning team by the Korean Prime minister.
We hope many of you will be able to put together a team.
PS: Programme, meals and accommodation in Korea are covered by KATS; travel to Korea up to the
event location will have to be covered by each participating country (some financial help available for
developing countries please see below).

Yours faithfully,

F.W.P. Vreeswijk
General Secretary & CEO

It is an honor for us to welcome participants to the 10th International Standards Olympiad in 2015.
Standards Olympiad started in 2006 in the form of a camp for youngsters aged 12 to 18 in Korea, and the
Olympiad was converted into a national competition the following year. The Korean National Standards
Olympiad, including the preliminary round and main contest, have been held ever since. Last year, this
Olympiad has been expanded to include a range of international participants.
The Olympiad is designed for students around the world to provide opportunities to demonstrate their
knowledge and to share new ideas about standards and technology. Participants will have a great opportunity
to demonstrate their creativity, problem-solving skills and cooperation through team-based competitive
standardization activities.
It will be an exciting time by exchanges and competition in standards, as well as forging new friendships.
As a host, the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards(KATS), in cooperation with the IEC, is preparing
to make an exciting and memorable experience for students, educators, and everyone else.
We encourage you to enjoy the excitement of the competition as you are inspired to follow your dreams.
