lesson called incident command. We learnt how to respond to
an incident and also how to respond to fire, be it to put it off or
save victims and having an assembly point where all victims

Today we received two practical trainings. One part was how
to put off a fire and the second was how to rescue victims who
have been trapped or injured in a building. We have been
taught how to climb a ladder; we were also taught how to
access a burning building using the ladder, through the safest
place. Trainers ordered us to move while crawling down
because the fire is always burning up and so you have to
move under.

Its my pleasure to be with you today and to listen to your
trainers and I must admit you proved that you have benefitted
from the lessons taught by your trainers, who praise your
work and language skills. We hope that you can be the future
trainers of all the 18 regions in Somalia, as you have already
trained others in Mogadishu. We are receiving many more
requests and we hope you will continue to do well so that we
reduce such foreign trips for training and Mogadishu becomes
the center for training in Somalia.

an advanced command and rescue course in Nairobi, Kenya to
enable them respond to fire emergencies in Somalia.
The training conducted by the Kenya Airports Authority and Kenya
Fire Rescue Services, focused on safety and rescue skills during
beneficial and had equipped them with new skills which they would
apply upon return to their home country, Somalia.
During our training, we have understood and learnt many topics
relating to our profession, which we did not know before. Among
them is leadership in fire service, which enables us to maintain
chain of command, in a country where law and order is difficult to
understand, said Mohamed Sahal Adan.
The Mogadishu Deputy Mayor, Osmail Abdi Guure challenged the
firefighters to pass on the skills acquired during the training.
Its my pleasure to be with you today and to listen to your trainers
and I must admit you proved that you have benefitted from the
lesson taught by your trainers who praise your work and language
skills. We hope that you can be the future trainers of all the 18

and Mogadishu becomes the center for training in Somalia.
The Somali Ambassador to Kenya, H.E Mohamed Ali Nur Ameriko
called for involvement of more women in the profession.
As we know, we have a population of 3 million people in Mogadishu.
The Deputy Mayor told us there is need to train more firefighters
and I agree with him but would wish to reiterate that we need to
include women firefighters in the next training in order to balance
the training, she said.
