0 FIRST TEXT (SHORT STORY)

Where were you last night?
- Where were you last night? I thought we had agreed to spend the evening together?
- Oh, did we? Sorry, it must have slipped my mind, he replied with a smirk on his face.
- I was expecting you, you didnt turn up and I worried.
I genuinely had been worried but only for a while and then I had been unexpectedly
disturbed, he didnt know that though, not yet anyway.
- Oh, there was no need to worry.
- What a stupid thing to say. Of course I was going to worry. Have you forgotten the last
time? Well I havent and I probably never will.
- Look, Im sorry. Ill make it up to you, I promise.
Here we were again, me left waiting on my own. I hated it. At first I would feel angry at
having been abandoned, forgotten, but then I would start to feel guilty for being so
selfish and I began to worry about him fearing that something awful had happened. My
imagination would run wild. I had no one to turn to, no one to talk to.
It always seemed to be me lugging around the emotional baggage for the two of us.
Saddled with a sense of guilt for what had passed and a fear of what was yet to come.
Had it been the other way around and I had kept him waiting I suspect he would have
been angry with me. He would have made me feel like a naughty schoolchild and
scolded me. Like Id done something wrong again. That look he gives, that
disapproving, you need to get a grip of yourself look. But Im not a child and I dont
need to be told off.
Not knowing where he was last night, what he was doing, who he was with, I had felt
out of control. He knows I cant bear to feel out of control. I cant even freewheel
downhill on a bicycle - I have to grip the brakes for dear life just in case I need to make
an emergency stop; nor can I run down a hill with gay abandon I have to crawl down
on all fours he used to laugh at me. So to have my mind running away with its

thoughts was unbearable and this time it was his fault, not mine, his. Why didnt he call,
why didnt he try and let me know what was happening? It would have taken just a
second of his time to reassure me that all was as it should be. He makes me feel as if
Im the selfish one, but Im not, am I?
- So, where were you last night? I asked again.
- My meeting ran late and I decided to stay over at the club.
- But you didnt tell me you had a meeting. I thought we agreed, no more surprises, no
more secrets. We promised wed be honest with each other. Why do you always have to
go and spoil things? It makes it harder for me.
- OK, OK. I get it, Im sorry. If its such a big deal to you, I promise Ill call next time.
- Yes, it is a big deal. What was I supposed to think? Youve no idea how lonely it is for
me here. Youve got the guys at the office, your club. Ive got no one, nothing. I have to
keep myself to myself, open up to no one, always looking over my shoulder. Some days
I cant face going out at all, just in case.
- Ive said Im sorry. It wont happen again. Im shattered; its been a long week. Let me
go and have a shower and then maybe we can get a takeaway?
- But arent you interested to know what I did, where I went last night? I asked.
- Sorry darling, where were you last night?
- I was here, of course, but an old friend dropped by and we chatted. Anyway, sorry to
spoil your plans for this evening, but I have to go now, theres somewhere I need to be. I
dont know when Ill be back.
I glanced back at him as I walked out the door; it was as if hed been struck dumb. He
seemed to be rooted to the floor and his face told me he didnt know whether to be
enraged or terrified. Now it was time for him to share some of that emotional burden.

3.0 THIRD TEXT (INFORMAL LETTER)

Dear Smith
It has been a long time since we exchanged letters. In this letter I am giving you an
exhilarating experience of my camping trip.
I, along with six school mates, went camping to Bir in Himachal Pradesh. It was a
seven-day trip. We went to Delhi by train and after a day's stay left for Bir early in the
morning by bus and reached there by evening. We camped out in the woods. The nights
were mostly clear and we enjoyed the beauty of the moon, the stars and the sky, It was
wonderful to see the night sky, as if there was not an iota of pollution in the hill area. We
also sat around the camp fire and told stories and jokes.
We went for long walks and also went trekking. The natural beauty of this place is really
worth seeing. There are pine trees all around Bir and a small river flows, winding its way
through the valleys and hills. As this place is very calm and quiet, we could very clearly
hear the chirping of birds and movement of the water.
It was really a great time for all of us. I wish you were with us. When you come to
Ahmedabad next time, we shall plan a similar camping trip again.
Pay my regards to your parents. Goodbye my friend.

Yours sincerely

4.0 SONG LYRIC

FIX YOU- COLDPLAY

When you try your best, but you don't succeed
When you get what you want, but not what you need
When you feel so tired, but you can't sleep

Stuck in reverse
And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can't replace
When you love someone, but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you
And high up above or down below
When you're too in love to let it go
But if you never try you'll never know
Just what you're worth
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you
Tears stream down your face
When you lose something you cannot replace
Tears stream down your face
And I...
Tears stream down your face
I promise you I will learn from my mistakes
Tears stream down your face
And I...
Lights will guide you home

And ignite your bones

And I will try to fix you

4.1 SONG DESCRIPTION

The song is about when you tried your best but it is not good enough to success, when
you are at the bottom in life, it is important to not to feel depress. This song is also about
someone who doesnt always get what they need. Besides, this song is also regarding
the feeling that occurs to you in situation where you lost something or someone that
means the world to you which is irreplaceable. The singer asked those who is going
through hardship in life to not to despair because no matter how bad the situation may
seem, The Almighty will guide you back to the right path and they will try to do their part
to help others who are in need.

4.2 REASONS WHY I LOVE THIS SONG

Loving something is inevitable, you either love one thing or another. For me, the song
that I love is Fix you by Coldplay. I love this song because this song is inspirational, this
song helped me to get through tough time where I literally got no one to listen to my
problem that I was facing. Besides, the melody is soothing and calming which help me
to relax in an overwhelming situation.
This song also teach me to help others who are in need. This is because we
have mutual understanding about the situation that someone is going through because
the song already describe many possible distressing situation that one individual might
go through. So helping others to get through something that I have been through.
In addition, this song taught me to let something that is hurting myself go and
start moving on in life so I may discover something that is truly mine. So, I should not be

worry about rejection from society and start to focus on improving myself to become
someone better entirely in a good way.

4.3 WHO SHOULD I GIVE THIS SONG TO

I would like to give this song to anyone who likes slow song and most likely to all my
contacts from my father to someone I just know. The reason why I want to give to
everyone because this song is universal, nobody escape from having problem or feeling
upset in life. Therefore, this song suits everyone even some people like me only listen to
this song when feeling upset.
Besides, this song helped me to get through tough time. So, I hope the others
who are in need can also benefit from this song besides it also give them a hint that I
will try my best to help them even sometimes it seems impossible. I also do not want the
person who is going through failure is life to give up on trying because once they give
up, the opportunity will not be in front of them for the second time.

REFLECTION

I am thankful to Almighty for His blessing that helps me to finish this task. When I first
receive the text, I difficulties to find text that contains interjections. This is because I
thought that the text is only for formal writing until my lecturer told me that the text that is

required in this task is not only exclusively for formal writing but it is also inclusive for
informal writing.
This task teach me to read something intensively to understand the usage of the
words used in any writing so that I can appreciate the writing even more. This task also
teach me to increase my knowledge regarding interjections, conjunctions and
prepositions. I also increase my vocabulary regarding these part of speech.
The second task requires me to listen to a song. The title of the song is according
to my preference. So I pick a song that has the most meaningful lyrics for me. I learnt
that every song has their own message and required the listener to analyse the song.
Same thing goes for speech, the audience must listen critically to what the speech is
about and what it implies.
I am hoping that I can increase my knowledge regarding English so I can
communicate with other better. For me knowledge is something that can be seek by
people who only interested.
