3 Before Installation
A base station where cabinets of earlier and later versions can be configured supports the
combination of various cabinets. This chapter describes information about the cabinets,
installation scenarios, and clearance requirements which you need to know before installation.
4 Unpacking Check
Unpack and check the delivered equipment to ensure that all the materials are included and intact.
5 Obtaining the ESN
This chapter describes how to obtain the Electronic Serial Number (ESN). The ESN is a unique
identifier of a Network Element (NE). Record the ESN for later commissioning of the base
station before installation.
6 Installation Process
The process of expanding a separated base station involves installing stacked components,
cabinets, boards, modules, and cables as well as power-on check.
7 Installing a Base
This section describes the procedure and precautions for installing a base on the concrete floor.
8 Installing the cabinet
When the BTS3900A cabinet is installed onsite, the installation method depends on the outdoor
environment.
9 Installing the Equipotential Cable and PGND Cable
An equipotential cable connects PGND screws on different cabinets to ensure the equipotential
bonding between the cabinets. A PGND cable connects a ground screw on a cabinet and the
PGND bar to ensure proper grounding of the cabinet.
10 Installing Boards and Modules
This chapter describes the new boards and modules to be installed during capacity expansion.
11 Adding one RFC (Ver.D) (-48 V)
This chapter describes capacity expansion scenarios where one RFC (Ver.D) is added to a
separated base station that is supplied with DC power and already configured with APM30 series
cabinets, APM30H (Ver.A) series cabinets, APM30H (Ver.B) series cabinets, or APM30H
(Ver.C) series cabinets.
12 Adding One APM30H (Ver.D), One RFC (Ver.D), and Two IBBS200Ds (Ver.D)/
IBBS200Ts (Ver.D)

7 Installing a Base
Installing a Base
This section describes the procedure and precautions for installing a base on the concrete floor.
Procedure
Step 1 Build a concrete pad.
NOTE
l The height of the concrete pad must meet the heat dissipation and waterproofing requirements of the cabinet.
l The concrete pad must be at least 200 mm above the floor.
l The horizontal error of the built concrete pad must be less than 5 mm.
Determine the position for installing the cabinet according to the engineering design and
Installation Clearance Requirements for the BTS3900A.
2.
Mark the anchor points on the concrete pad to determine the position for installing the base,
as shown by the red circles in Figure 7-1.

7 Installing a Base
Use a hammer drill with bit 16 to drill holes at the anchor points and confirm that the depth
of each hole ranges from 52 mm to 60 mm.
NOTICE
l Do not use the base as a positioning tool when drilling. Otherwise, the paint on the base
may be scratched.
l To prevent inhalation or eye contact with dust, take adequate preventive measures when
drilling holes.
2.
Use a vacuum cleaner to clear the dust inside and around the holes. if the inter-hole spacing
is too wide or too narrow, locate and drill holes again.
3.
Tighten the expansion bolts slightly and place one vertically into each hole.
4.
Use a rubber mallet to hammer the expansion bolt until the expansion tube is buried into
the hole, and then tighten the bolt.
5.
Remove the bolts, spring washers, and flat washers by turning them counterclockwise.
NOTICE
After dismantling an expansion bolt, ensure that the top of the expansion tube is on the
same level as the concrete floor. Otherwise, the cabinet cannot be installed on the concrete
floor evenly and securely.
Step 4 Place the base in the correct position, and then install the bolt with the spring washer and flat
washer, as shown in Figure 7-3.

Item
All cables, especially the Ethernet cables for communication, are securely
connected. All cable connectors at the bottom of the cabinet are securely installed.
The cables are neatly and tightly bound. The cable ties are evenly spaced and face
the same direction.
Different types of power cables are bound separately when being routed, for
example, the power cables, PGND cables, feeders, fiber optic cables, and E1/T1/
FE cables.
The layout of all cables facilitates the maintenance and capacity expansion. For
example, the maintenance transfer cable is bound to the outside of the BBU cable
claw, as shown in Figure 15-1.
The extra length of the indoor cable ties is cut off, and the cut surfaces are smooth
without sharp edges. The extra length of 3 mm to 5 mm (0.12 in. to 0.2 in.) of the
outdoor cable ties is reserved when the cable ties are cut.
The connectors of the RF cables are secured to avoid false connection that will cause
an abnormal voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR).

Handling Measures
Check whether the input power cables for the battery cabinet are
connected properly.
l If the cables are not connected correctly, set all the power
switches to OFF, and then reconnect the power cables.
l If the cables are connected correctly, replace the EPU.
Check as follows:
1. Remove the board, and check whether any pin of the slot on
the backplane is bent, broken, or missing. Replace the subrack
if necessary.
2. Insert the board into the subrack again, and check the status of
indicators on the board.
3. If the indicators indicate an exception, remove the board, insert
it into a vacant slot holding the boards of the same type, and
check the status of the indicators again.
l If the board works properly, the original slot is faulty. In
this case, replace the subrack.
l If the fault persists, the board is faulty. In this case, replace
the board.

16 Power-On Check
Failure Type
Handling Measures
Check as follows:
1. Check whether the indicator on the fuse terminal block that
connects power supply to the component is on. (Skip this step
and go to 2 if this component does not use any fuse terminal
block.)
l If the indicator on the fuse terminal block is on, the fuse is
faulty. In this case, replace the fuse according to the
instructions in Replacing a Fuse.
l If the indicator on the fuse terminal block is off, go to 2.
2. Use a multimeter to measure the input power to the component.
l If the input power is normal, replace the component.
l If the input power is abnormal, check whether the power
cable for the component is connected securely. If the power
cable is not connected securely, turn off the power switch
for the component (if there is no power switch for the
component, remove the connector on the power cable) and
reconnect the power cable. If the power cable is connected
securely, the power switch or fuse for the component may
be faulty. In this case, replace the power switch or fuse.
