Lesson: : Unit 4: Forces in Engineering

Task 1, 2, 3
+ Vocabulary about forces in engineering
+ Brainstorming for the following reading text

Book: (Oxford English for Electrical and Mechanical Engineering)

Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, students are supposed to be able to:

Knowledge:
+ Have general knowledge about forces in engineering.
+ Understand and use correctly the vocabulary and terms about forces in
engineering.

Skills:
+ Identify some kinds of forces in English terms.
+ Explain simple problems in forces (magnitude, equilibrium, etc.)

Attitude:
+ Apply terms and vocabulary in their study and daily life.

Methodology and teaching aids:

+ Methodology: Task based language teaching
+ Teaching aids: Students materials, chalk, board, power point presentation,
handouts, markers, etc.

Anticipated problems and solutions:

Anticipated problems:
+ Students may not be very active to express their ideas and to work in teams.
+ Students may not have enough vocabulariesy and English knowledge to speak
and explain a problem about forces in engineering.

Solutions:
+ Teacher creates a comfortable environment by moves moving around and
helps helping students in with working in groups, and creates a comfortable.
+ Teacher explains vocabulary vocabularies and terms clearly, helps them

Activity 2: Checking memory about

new words

Teacher asks students to put away

all the materials and work in
groups of 6 students (about 6 or 7
groups) and shows a short video
clip, students watch the video clip
carefully and take note.
Teacher gives each group a
handout (Identify forces on the car
and airplane). Each group will
choose suitable words and tick
them next to the pictures.

Teacher shows PowerPoint slides
and explains each answer.
Teacher pronounces the words for
students to repeat.
After the game:
The fastest groups who has all the
correct answers will get 20 points,
other groups who have correct
answers will get 10 points

Teacher gives each groups

handouts with words about forces
and pieces of papers with words
definition on itthem.
Students work in groups to tick
match the definitions by with the
words. (Can use materials and
dictionary)
Students submit papers to
teachers, teacher writes on the
board the submission order to

Teacher shows PowerPoint slides
and asks students for Vietnamese
meanings.
Teacher pronounces the words,
students repeat.
Winner is the fastest groups
having all the correct answers and
they will get 30 points, other
groups will get 15 points if they
get correct answers.

bonus mark if they draw correctly.

From the students drawing,

teacher asks students to work in
groups again to answer 3
questions on textbook in their
words in 2 minutes.
