QUESTION 1: ( Comparison and Contrast Essay )

If you have lived in two cities or countries, write a

comparison/contrast of life in those two places. Imagine that your
audience wishes to choose between these locations for a residence.
How would you evaluate their options?
Write an essay of not less than 500 words on the above topics.
Melaka and Pahang are well known as Malaysias best attractions on
tourism. Melaka dubbed as The Historic State and is the third smallest Malaysian state after
Perlis and Penang. This historical city centre has been listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site
since 7 July 2008. Meanwhile, Pahang is the third largest state in Malaysia, after Sarawak and
Sabah, occupying the huge Pahang River basin. Its state capital is Kuantan and the royal seat is
at Pekan. The Arabic honorific of Pahang is Darul Makmur, which means Abode of Tranquility.
The states of Malacca and Pahang have many similarities and stark
differences, which make them idyllic for residences. Some of these aspects,
which are similar in terms of the environmental, scenery view and in safety.
In both cities, the environment is the main factor to be considerate in
choosing a residence. It is an ideal state with consistent growth, political
stability, and racial harmony with friendly people. The people comprises a multiethnic race such as Malays, Chinese, Indians, Baba and Nyonya, Portuguese, unique Aborigines
and more. Thats why, the cities are also well known for the friendly and polite community and
will never forget to give a lending hand wherever you need it. Despite of that, it is also providing
highest standard living with modern infrastructure and facilities. It is a city, which made for
merchandise with the status as trading heaven in a new kind of way. The cities had been
developing in a great trading empire, which offers a wide array of shopping places. It has
various shopping places, which diverse from modern shopping to hypermarkets, from shop lots
to boutiques, from handicraft centre to antique shops and lastly, from roadside to night markets.
These places will give pleasant shopping experiences with more exciting and worthwhile. Aside
from this, Melaka and Kuantan are both major urban hubs even tough Melaka
is substantially smaller than Kuantan in terms of overall population, but both

cities are economic capitals of their respective countries. The cost of living

will maintain throughout a long period as long as the economy growth

efficiently and effectively. Therefore, you can enjoy the living in comfortable
and lavishness. With the growing extensively in developing quality residences such as
terrace and semi-detached houses, bungalows, apartments and condominiums people would have
plenty preferable residences, which they can select as dream home. Moreover, both cities also
offering comparable medical services. Besides the government hospital, there are several
excellent private medical specialists centre for medical treatments to the public. You just can turn
to the hundreds of clinics run by general practitioners as well as district hospitals and clinics for
the treatment of common ailments and diseases.
Wanting to get away from hustle and bustle cities? Do not worry, because another
similarities between both cities lies to its scenery and panoramic view which an exciting addition
to attract and provides another facet of this fascinating cities. First, it offers endless activities
such as nature parks, theme parks, animal farms, hill resorts as well as island for the people.
Moreover, spending leisurely day after working hours amidst the greenery of the various parks
and farms is an aspect, which should not be missed. There are also many islands offshore with
extensive coral reef systems and fine stretches of beach to be explore. Surrounded by crystal
clear waters, sweet smell of coconuts and white sand stretches along the beach surrounding you
it would be great as mind therapy yet these places suited to those who are looking for a cool and
quite place to relax themselves and to get away from the hectic city life.
Last but not least, the main concern in choosing a place to live is the safety. In addition,
to develop a safe and secure environment both cities maintains a continuous and harmonious
relationship with law enforcement agencies and community leaders. In order to maintain such an
environment, police patrol are assigned to each residential area to patrol and to against
suspicious activity. We can also contact the local police department, which they will provide
details about a particular area. This is probably your best source for information on crime and
safety. Most police stations will also provide details on how active the community is, if they are
involved in crime prevention or community policing.

Finally, when trying the best places to live, choosing the best cities is almost as critical as

choosing a house or apartment, it needs to be safe, good environmental and also good scenery
view which will provide you with everything that you need. Thus, it is up to you to compare the
similarities between these two countries before deciding to set up own residences.
